We had the good fortune of connecting with Jody Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jody, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
I have owned my own practice for 25 years. One of the greatest aspects of that is being afforded the opportunity to take time off whenever I deem it appropriate. Many years ago, I decided that I would use that time off in some sort of medical mission work. Acupuncture is so portable and effective for a myriad of diseases and complaints, that it lends itself well to this type of mission. I have traveled to Mexico, Navajo Nation, AZ, India and Peru to provide medical services in underserved communities. I have also trained healthcare providers in some of these regions how to practice acupuncture so that these services can continue after I have returned home.

What should our readers know about your business?
This is my second solo acupuncture practice. I started in CT and moved to AZ six years ago. Recently I opened the Longevity Wellness Clinic of AZ, in Chandler AZ. My first career was in sports medicine. I have a degree in Exercise Physiology and a license in Athletic Training, in addition to my license in Acupuncture. Because of this combination, I am considered a premier sports medicine professional in this area. I excel at treating difficult to diagnose and manage injuries, whether in a professional athlete or a weekend warrior.

As an athletic trainer and a new business owner, I worked a lot…weekends, holidays…a lot. I am now at a stage that I don’t have to do that and have achieved a better work life balance. I can spend a full hour with each patient, I can take time to do mission trips.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Canyon Lake…The Dollie Steamship Superstitions hiking…Peralta trail
Sedona…Pink Jeep Tour
The rodeo…any rodeo.
The Grand Canyon…because “grand”
The botanical garden
A pro sporting event.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The one individual that I would give a shout out to, was my boss while I was in Acupuncture School. Val Omasta, was not only a business mentor, but allowed and encouraged me to pursue this education, even though it took me out of the office several days a week, even though acupuncture was a relatively little known practice at the time.
