We had the good fortune of connecting with Genesis Maxim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genesis, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic and creative career because I have always been the most happy and satisfied when I’m creating! I love to make things beautiful and enjoyable to look at. It makes life more interesting and just so much more fun!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m try to set myself apart from other photographers and creatives by having something different and unique to offer. In one way, you have to conform to what others are doing because that’s what people like, but I more than anything aspire to have a completely different style and original ideas represented through my work. I’m so excited to get back into shooting more. I’ve taken a step back for the last few months after having my daughter but I’m ready to jump back in! I have so many new ideas that I want to bring to life through my lens and I can’t wait to continue to create!

I got to where I am in my photography by a lot of learning, listening, and friends and family cheering me on. My husband has been a huge help in assisting me with different things so I can further my creative endeavors.

I’ve learned that it takes a lot of hard work, to get to a place that you want to be in creative-wise. It usually doesn’t just happen for most people. The creative market is so saturated that you have to always be thinking of something different in order to stand out.

In a world so dependent on social media, something that people don’t realize is that a simple “like”, “share”, or “follow” can really impact a creative. Most people don’t see the behind the scenes and how much hard work goes into creating those posts. Social media is a really great tool for people who want to get their name out in the creative world, but we need other people interacting to help us. It goes a long way when others support us through social media platforms.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Tucson is such a unique destination to visit. I have lived all over the country but Tucson definitely has the most diverse culture. We have some amazing Mexican food but then two doors down you’ll find the best bowl of noodles you’ve ever had. A couple of my favorite restaurants that really highlight our culture are Prep and Pastry for breakfast/brunch, Le Buzz Caffe for Lunch, and Time Market Pizza for dinner.

There’s also some amazing coffee houses scattered around town. Presta Coffee is one of my favorites, but I also love Floras Market Run for a midday coffee and pastry! Be sure to check out Sabina Canyon for some great hiking and Mount Lemon for great views of the city (and to escape the heat!)

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom is my inspiration for a lot of the work that I do. She is an amazing creative and has taught me so much. I think she is where I get most of my ideas from. I aspire to have half her knowledge and creativity one day.
