We had the good fortune of connecting with Helen Krsul and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Helen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?

True Life Harmony was started when I realized the power of hypnotherapy. It’s a natural ability everyone has to change their underlying thinking. Your thoughts are the foundation of your actions. Your thoughts should benefit you and keep you on course in a positive frame of mind.

As a parent, I went through a period where I struggled with three young children and a husband who travels for work. Happiness and fulfillment were not on my list. I knew I could do better, feel better, and enjoy my life more. I searched for something which would help me make the transition. It began with personal development books. I came across a book which described how to “talk” to your brain. I tried it and it worked! This was a revelation for me and sent me down the hypnotherapy rabbit hole.

Once I realized how much quicker it is to change thoughts, and the actions which follow, the more I realized the difference it could make in everyone’s life. I felt I was given an opportunity to help others with the skills I’d acquired.

My client list started with family while I sought out more formal training. A hypnotherapy “crash course” was the first stop as I expanded my work to friends and referrals. Next was a course through the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) in Tempe. Once I completed the course, I received my Certification as a Hypnotherapist. Additional training continued with a hypnotherapy course on PTSD and trauma.

The next portion of my education was all about the brain. I wanted to find out why hypnotherapy can so easily change a habit, a thought, or an action in a few sessions. It included a study of the brain and how it functions at a basic level. I currently follow podcasts and read books and research on sleep, trauma, how emotions are formed, and more. I’m still on the journey of how it works.

My “in person” office officially opened January of 2022 in Mesa. It’s been an amazing journey and created a transformation of who I am as a person in the process.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

As a Certified Hypnotherapist I work with anything and everything. Every day is different. Anything which relates to “how you think” shows up at my door. Recently I’ve been seeing weight management, reducing sugar and chocolate cravings, better and sustained sleep, smoking cessation, alcohol cessation, anxiety and panic attacks, IBS, and pain management. Stress and anxiety are a common theme. It’s usually attached to something else happening in a client’s life.

Being a veteran, I’m also involved in that community. I understand the process of what a member of the military goes through and from the family perspective as well. There are many resources in the Valley for veterans. It’s a matter of finding the service which suites each veteran best. Hypnotherapy is a resource which can make the transition from military to civilian life much smoother. It’s also effective in lessening the pressures which come with the military mindset and experience.

Because hypnotherapy is a tool, you need to know how to use it to make it work. Anyone can do it. I’ve found many prefer to be guided through the process, at least in the beginning. I’m the person who guides you through the process to make the changes.

During each session, we discuss your desired outcome. The hypnotherapy portion is based on that discussion. You are completely in control throughout. It’s designed to achieve your outcome so you become the person you want to be. Calm, confident, patient, happy, more in the present, free of negative thoughts, free of old habits, or bad habits you no longer want.

Everything we do is based on how we think. Your conscious mind is what you’re aware of in the moment. Your subconscious is everything else stored in your head. Information you learned in school, playing sports or musical instruments, at work, how to socialize, cook dinner, as well as movements, breathing, digestion, muscle movements, and more.

You can’t think of everything you know in the moment. Your brain stores those things for use when it’s needed. Your brain will pull up information it thinks might be useful in the moment or feels is necessary because of the importance placed on the information when it was stored.

These thoughts can pop up and pull us away from being productive. In many work environments, or even just daily life, your conscious thoughts can hinder performance or your ability to enjoy the moment. You may want to be in a “flow” state and “conscious” thoughts break your rhythm and ability to excel. With hypnotherapy, we can work on thoughts which don’t benefit you or are no longer necessary. It can increase your ability to be in your flow or enjoyable frame of mind.

The actual hypnotherapy process involves focus and relaxation. Relaxation aids your ability to accept suggestions for change. Focus tells your brain which thoughts and actions to replace or change. Hypnotherapy is known to help quit smoking and weight management. It is also an amazing tool for dealing with sleep, anxiety, stress, fears, phobias, trauma, and increasing focus, motivation, confidence, sports and musical performance, and so much more.

There is some skepticism around hypnotherapy. It’s not mainstream, but is quickly becoming better known and accepted. It’s an alternative to pills, long term therapy sessions, and doctor visits which don’t alleviate the problem.

By the time a person is ready to try hypnotherapy they’ve usually sought out other methods. With hypnotherapy, change happens so much faster than the struggle we often put ourselves through. If you allow the process to happen, the change you want starts with the first session, because all behaviors can change. You simply listen to my words, follow the suggestions, use your imagination, and allow your brain to make the adjustments.

It seems too good to be true. The only down side I’ve come across is not everything can be changed in one session. It can take anywhere from 2-8 sessions. The average I’ve been seeing lately is three to four, but some situations do take up to eight. It really depends on you and your readiness to change.

All of the information I’ve learned along the way has been put into practice. My goal is to help each client be the person they want to be just as quickly as those changes can take place. At each session, I learn a little more and have a larger tool chest to implement at the next session.

When you’re ready to change how you think, your world changes. Hypnotherapy is that tool which can change your world. Update your thoughts to meet your needs today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

Arizona is an amazing state! We’re in the East Valley, and it seems the options are endless. There are sporting events, art festivals, trips to the mountains and goldmines. It all depends on the mood that strikes us. My favorite activities would be to take a hike to someplace like the wave cave, to see hieroglyphics, or a mine. Take a float down the Salt River, a tour on the Steamboat Dolley, or paddle board on Saguaro Lake and stop at Tortilla Flats or the ghost town.

Mesa, Chandler, and Gilbert all have restaurants which are hard to pass up. The Gilbert House for breakfast is a must. OHSO is a favorite, as well as The Original Chop Shop, 12 West, and of course Oregano’s. Roy’s is always delicious for a dressier night out. A trip to Sedona, Grand Canyon Caverns and the Grand Canyon are always amazing if time permits. Holbrook, to check out some geodes, and the Petrified Forest are other good stops, or down South to Tombstone, Bisbee, and Kartchner Caverns.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are always so many people to thank regardless of the size of the encouragement and support. It all makes a difference. The first would have to be my parents and siblings. The environment I grew up in kick started my desire and motivation to succeed. It provided the drive to learn, strive, and grow as a person throughout my life. Next is certainly my husband and kids. Their interest in what I’m doing and excitement at my success along the way inspires me to continue the journey. Also to my aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, and friends who’ve been willing to listen and be guinea pigs during all my learning phases. The final shout out goes to all my clients who continually challenge me to find new and creative ways to be a better hypnotherapist. Their amazement and appreciation of the results fuels my growth and desire to improve.
