We had the good fortune of connecting with A Purple Life and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi A Purple Life, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
The main driving force behind me striving to retire early (and doing so at age 30 in 2020) was my loved ones. I have limited time on this Earth and so do they. I wanted to spend as much time with the people I love as possible – present time where I’m not always thinking about work in the back of my mind. Since retiring I’ve spent more time with the people I love just in those 2 years than I have in the previous 30 years combined.

Another driving force behind that goal was my want to explore and learn about our world. While I was working my demanding marketing job I was in a cycle of working and recovering from work. Unfortunately the two week vacation I was given did not refresh me enough to work 60 hour weeks basically the rest of the year. Since I’ve left my job I finally have the energy to explore things I’ve always been curious about. For example, I have the goal of going from 0% to Spanish fluency this year. I’m already conversational in the language and it’s only July as of this writing.

In 2021 I had the goal of reading a nonfiction book a week – 52 total and I succeeded! This is compared to barely reading 8 total per year while working. I learned so much. I also now have 52 weeks instead of 2 rushed ones to travel around the world and have been. I’ve been moving across the US and now the world about every month and seen amazing things such as the Grand Canyon, the world’s largest hot air balloon festival and Chichén Itzá. That’s just a small sample of what I’ve been up to since retirement and what makes me happy.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I joined the marketing career because I was good at it and it paid well. I quickly learned that the easiest way to get paid appropriately was to job hop constantly. In doing so I increased my salary about $20,000 each jump, which I did annually. This allowed me to increase my salary from $35K the first year of my career to $115K 9 years later when I retired.
