We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Dirksen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started JazzyAngel Productions and JazzyAngel Casting because it was the next logical and natural step in my growth as an artist. As an artist, you cannot wait for “the perfect project” to fall at your feet. You have to make your perfect project yourself! And along the way you hope you will bring together other creative talent to join in that creation. I have been very fortunate with the talented artists that have joined me in bringing to life the crazy ideas I have!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started in musical theatre at a young age. When I graduated college, I toured for a couple years teaching theatre to kids 5-18 and directing various productions. In 2003, I decided to move to NYC and live the actors life of hitting the pavement and doing the work. I continued acting but added in directing (which I equally love) and casting, something I discovered I had very good instincts for, I love finding new talent! It was not easy trying to balance all my interests but not spread myself so thin that I got burnt out. But overall, I loved every minute of it! Even when I was beyond broke! You have to keep moving forward! As I conquered the various (and many) obstacles of being a working actor/director/CD in NYC, I became more confident in my talents and my voice. I eventually realized that I wanted to focus on TV/Film, specifically comedies, I had to move West. And boy, was it a shift! I have been in LA for 8 years now and in that time, I’ve added stand up comedian & writer to my growing list of skills. And it’s here in LA where JazzyAngel Productions and within it, JazzyAngel Casting was made an official LLC.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite places are the beach cities. Venice is a must, the people there are SO unique! Long beach is another fav of mine. It’s just the vibe I like to share with out of towners. In LA proper, I like to find amazing food with a touch of Hollywood history if I can. El Coyote is a great stop for that especially after Once Upon a Time in Hollywood came out. haha. But don’t ask for Sharon Tate’s table, they won’t tell you! I also love side by side restaurants I Met Her at a Bar/I Met Him at a Bar. It’s such a fun quirky place to go! I love speakeasy’s too. But sshhhh, I can’t tell you their passwords. If it’s summer into early fall, the Hollywood Cemetery for a movie is a LA MUST. But I only go to see horror films… It’s a HUGE cemetery, why would I go see anything else?! But the atmosphere is something I cannot put into words, you just gotta experience it. With wine.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh wow. That list is a LONG list, lol! My family has always been my #1 supporter and cheerleader. Especially my mom. HI MOM!
