We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristine Drummond and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristine Drummond, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I’ve noticed especially in the past few years that more and more people are creating, whether it’s art, writing, songs, poetry, opening a business or in whatever way it may be, more and more people seem to be expressing their creative side and are following their passion, and so within the art community I’ve noticed that more people are becoming comfortable expressing openly what they see or feel in a painting or piece of art. They are not so afraid of being judged for what they are saying and so are freer in expressing themselves and it starts a conversation. I have the most interesting discussions with people about art in all forms and it opens up conversations about what is happening in the world, our future, the imagination, what we feel, what we see, our hopes, our dreams… and that is such a beautiful and amazing thing to be part of.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a self taught artist and when I paint I just allow the energy to move through me onto the canvas. I don’t plan a piece or draw it out. I paint “intuitively” and so for example, when I am painting a commission for a client I tap into their energy field and whatever comes through in the painting are messages for them personally. I am always amazed and fascinated by the pieces I create for others. It’s not been an easy process to get to where I am today as I’ve had to move deeply into trusting and allowing whatever appears on the canvas to be there regardless of what I may think or feel looks “right” as it all comes together in the completion of a piece and tells a story. My art is “imperfect”… the way I paint, how it looks, my brush strokes and so on, but it all comes together perfectly in the end and that takes a huge amount of trust in myself to allow that to unfold. The more that I move into loving myself the more that I am able to move into trusting the process and getting out of my own way. My art doesn’t fit in a “box” and it took me years to realize that that box does not exist.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in a beautiful area with so many nooks and crannies to visit and the art community is huge here. I am surrounded by lakes and rivers and incredible forests and nature plays a huge part in bringing me back to who I am when life gets overwhelming. I don’t think it matters where you live or where you go with friends as every town or city has its own appeal. It’s more about the energetic connection with people and there is nothing more enjoyable than spending time with people you love and who love you.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, there are so many people that have encouraged, supported and loved me through this process over the past few years. A big shoutout to Brian Tosh, owner of Peter Street Fine Arts Gallery & Studio where I’ve been lucky enough to showcase my paintings for the past few years. Recently I have had the wonderful opportunity to hang 13 paintings at YJstation, a new yoga studio downtown owned by YJ Hong-McParland. Derek Lopez, a good friend and mentor who owns a gallery in England and has purchased a number of my pieces and continues to support and encourage me. And I am supported by an incredible group of friends who have always been there for me every step along the way and who continue to love me through this incredible journey.
