We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Rizvi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Like our recipes, Andrea is a transplant from the land down under.  Originally from North Australia, she arrived on American shores in her early 20s to study and work in international development.  Over the next two decades she built her home in the US while traveling extensively, advising on projects to bring water, sanitation, electricity and roads to underdeveloped communities across the globe.  She also started a family – becoming a ‘mum’ to four boys. As her children grew Andrea wanted to share with them the ‘yummo’ treats she had enjoyed as a kid in Australia so she started baking her favorite traditional Aussie slice recipes at home for her sons, their friends and families.  They were an instant hit!  Boomerang Bites was founded in 2018 to spread her passion for the goodness of delicious Aussie slices, but also as a ‘socially conscious’ business – a model of how business can be good, making a great product with excellent service, while simultaneously doing good.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Boomerang Bites is a female founded and operated company. Created in 2018, we hand craft wholesome, delicious bite-sized sweet baked goods using traditional Australian ‘slice’ recipes. Each bite is full of flavor-packed ‘home-made’ goodness. We use only the finest ingredients with no artificial flavors or preservatives and work with small, family suppliers wherever possible. Perfectly proportioned, they offer a bite-sized alternative to larger high calorie baked goods and are available in a range of unique and interesting flavors – including salted chocolate caramel, sweet chocolate caramel, raspberry coconut, golden oat, date caramel, nut caramel, passionfruit, milk chocolate & cookies as well as gluten free and vegan options.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends, and family – mostly my husband and four boys, who saw my weird and wacky idea to start a baking business, and supported the heck out of it – whether it be delivering bite orders, manning farmers markets, helping to build out the bakery kitchen, or unload ingredient supplies. They are simply the best. And then there is my dear friend – who called my bluff, and placed the first large catering order. She knows who she is. I will be forever grateful.
