We had the good fortune of connecting with Aanya Vinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aanya, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
In childhood I was very shy and felt very misunderstood, creating things gave me a way to express myself. I was that homeschooled kid who locked herself in her room for hours upon hours learning how to play the piano and filming covers of my favorite songs via YouTube, or writing books, or painting art for my room, or editing makeup tutorials. What I loved about art is there was no right or wrong, and it came in so many shapes and sizes, and most importantly it never had to stay the same. I was 16 when I finished school then the following year I spent attending beauty school and eventually landed myself a perfect job in hairstyling at Primp and Blow Gilbert! Fast forward a few years and I started my family and while I do still work at the salon on weekends, I spend most of my time now working in content creation. This gave me a way of combining all of the things that’s I enjoy the most into one lucrative side hustle from home while also getting to be present in raising my daughter and without having to “Pick a niche” and work in that same industry every day. I love starting each day knowing I’m in control of how it all goes!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Something that I am quite proud of is my versatility, which is ironic because advice people often time give me is “Pick something and focus on that one thing.” I’m proud of being a jack of all trades. One day I’ll be doing makeup, the next music, and the following it’ll be something else. This my very best attribute, it is what makes me ME! And what I’ve learned in time is that life feels a whole lot lighter when I’m just being myself; whoever that may be each day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When me and friends get together, we don’t really need to have a plan. We flow with the energy, and we go where it takes us, which is usually in the direction of FOOD! Postino’s is a fave for sure, really all of downtown Gilbert is great! Flower Child by Santan Village Marketplace is always a good time (especially if the weathers nice and you can sit outside!) I recently had some friends in town from Ohio, and we took on hiking Camelback, which is a must-do if your new in town! Then had lunch and margaritas at Diego Pops in Scottsdale! Which was SO GOOD!
Me and my sister’s version of the perfect day will most likely include a little drive over Scottsdale quarter and lunch at our favorite restaurant True Foods. Plus, the splash pad makes it a blast for little ones! Honestly, wherever the foods at we’ll be there!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My boss Tierra and co-workers at Primp and Blow Gilbert for always hyping me up and encouraging me to push through when I’m feeling stressed or like I can’t do something. I love you so much yallll!
