We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaron Reina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aaron, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind our success has been the way we treat our team and guests. Of course, our product is important and we strive to serve delicious coffee and crepes, but we’ve learned that if that product is not served with great hospitality, then it will not taste the same. That is why we came up with a phrase as our mission statement which is: “To Make Your Day”. Our goal is to have a positive impact on our guests and we believe that starts with treating our team right. That includes closing on Sundays to allow time with family, and also offering professional counseling to our leaders.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Colados is a family-owned business that was founded after a married couple lost their job. Together with their kids, Colados was born in 2014 in Avondale. Arizona. We serve Latin-inspired crepes and traditional coffee from Monday to Saturday. What makes Colados unique is the authentic crepes you can’t find anywhere else like their Chorizo crepe which is made in-house. Our mission are Colados is “To Make Your Day”, which is how we treat our guests and employees. We believe our hospitality is our secret sauce to make our guests come back. We write positive quotes on our coffee lids and go above and beyond to make our experience memorable.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Let’s hang out! First off we have to grab a coffee and crepe at Colados of course. I recommend an iced White Toffee latte and a Chipotle crepe. Next for lunch, we would go to Harumi Sushi in downtown Phoenix. I would order their Oh My God roll and their H3 roll. For Dinner, I would go next door to Ramen Kagawa and have a Habanero Ramen.
For the next day, I would start at Ollie Vaughn’s in Phoenix and have their omelette and pastries. For lunch, we would go to Boyer Cafe and get their Chicken Salad Croissant and their chocolate chip cookies. For dessert, I would grab a cookie monster dough melt from Novel Ice Cream downtown.
For the last day I would start with a visit to New Penny Cafe and enjoy any breakfast sandwich and their variety of unique coffee flavors. For lunch I would go to Taco Boys and have some Asada tacos or any tacos there are good. For dinner, I would finish at Ciao Grazie and get their oven fire pizza.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Colados would like to shoutout Lindsay McOien. She is a photographer based out in Phoenix, AZ. We met randomly at our local gym down the street from our Avondale location. She had just moved to Arizona and was looking to work with local businesses and we hit off right away. Lindsay clicked with our team and we have been working with her on a monthly-basis for over two years. She has helped our content go to another level and we’re glad we met that one day. Thank you Lindsay for your great work!
