We had the good fortune of connecting with Evgeniia Darland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Evgeniia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Since I was a kid, I was always drawing..sometimes it felt like I don’t do anything else than that! It was my only good skill that eventually folrmed my whole life! I went to art school while being in high school and then chose to get architect degree. It was a start point to get art more work like.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My way was very unique…I’m foreigner! I moved from Russia few years ago to meet my fiance at that time. So I had to start professional life from zero with minimal support in foreign country! Had to have jobs and having aprentiship at a tattoo shop all over again! My first aprentiship was in Russia, so I was experienced already. I had to swallow my pride and start over! I’m super happy I had it the hard way! At some point I thought I will never be tattoing. Challenges helped me to discover my own style and different approach to the tattoo industry itself.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would show downtown Phoenix..even just to walk there is so much fun! There is one small bar Charlie’s with shows and fun people! If me and my friend feeling like dancing, we would go to Shady park..or Walter Where House!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mom is an artist as well! But when she had me, she dropped everything and was working alot. She never had time to develop her skills to the fullest back then. Made me realize I have to be dedicated and secrifice everything for something I love to do.
