Meet Abby Fenzel | Wedding & Event Planner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Fenzel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Abby, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I grew up watching my parents run their own respective businesses. I have seen the blood, sweat and tears that go into it but also the big reward that can come from self made success. Having worked in the wedding industry throughout college, I got to explore the different aspects and truly loved the details that go into weddings and events. Taking a leap of faith to start a business is a big one but for me, the right one. Fortunately, I’ve had an amazing support system of family & friends who have been my biggest cheerleaders in this endeavor!
What should our readers know about your business?
Copper Blossom Events is your partner in wedding & event planning based in Arizona. My business is still in growth mode and in its second year, I have booked 3x the weddings I did in my first year. I have learned a lot along the way. The biggest takeaway is to learn from your mistakes the first time. At some point you’re going to mess up, it’s inevitable but own it, learn from it, and come back even better than you were before.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dancing at Denim & Diamonds is always a good time!
If you’re looking for horseback riding, check out Ponderosa Stables at South Mountain! Their wranglers are friendly and helpful and great with first time riders. After, grab breakfast at Brunch Snob in Ahwatukee, you won’t regret it!
Spend an afternoon in Downtown Mesa, start off with beverages at Cider Corps and a delicious pizza from Myke’s Pizza then top it all off with Novel Ice Cream.
For outdoor activities, paddle boarding down the Salt River or at Saguaro Lake are both great options and you just might see the wild horses! Another option is to hike Lost Dutchman State Park and then grab a tasty sandwich and homemade gelato after at Dolce Vita Italian Grocer.
For a fabulous cup of coffee, check out Press Coffee or Hava Java. For something stronger, some of my favorite cocktails can be found at The Gladly or Gin & Reel.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my husband for supporting my dream, keeping me caffeinated, and helping me in a variety of ways from reception setups to furniture moving and being my road trip buddy to make my destination weddings even more fun!
Shoutout to my parents for their guidance, advice and support! My dad’s head for business has been helpful in mapping out my overall business plan. My mom worked in the wedding industry for 15+ years and has been an invaluable resource (and also my assistant from time to time!) and my stepdad has provided comedic relief along the way. They’ve been amazing cheerleaders and I’m so thankful for them!
Huge shoutout to my friends who have trusted me enough to become my clients. Thank you for believing in my lil business, being my guinea pigs and helping me grow along the way.
One more shoutout goes to Pi Beta Phi, the fraternity for women, that has helped shaped me into the woman I am today through a variety of experiences, leadership opportunities and has given me many fabulous friends who have been so supportive of my new endeavor.
