We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki + Jon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki + Jon, why did you pursue a creative career?
We decided to pursue a creative career because that’s what we started loving! Growing up, we both thought we needed what was considered a “professional career” such as accounting. But we quickly learned that that just wasn’t us. We love being more flexible with when and where we work and we didn’t want to be tied down making someone else’s dream come true while ignoring our own.
Jon and I started traveling the United States in early 2020 when Jon started Travel Nursing. I left my job in management to join him and that’s when I discovered my love for travel. I started our Instagram page @travelnurseswife to show off all the beautiful places we found and to keep our family and friends up to date. And then it just kept growing. I started to realize it’s potential and that I genuinely enjoyed creating content for it.
I found an incredibly creative, supportive and welcoming community on Instagram who had a passion for travel as well. I expected to get a lot of “haters” and for my family to make comments about me pursuing an influencer route but honestly… that never happened. Everyone in our lives have been incredibly supportive and we now have friends in almost every country all over the world! I mean, how many people can say that?
We know that this freedom to express who we are and what we love means we chose the right path for us. Our Instagram has even grown into a blog now (https://travelnurseswife.com/
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We are content creators focused on slow travel in the United States who first began traveling in 2020. Since then, we have lived in multiple states in the USA, traveled internationally, and explored countless cities, restaurants, unique places to stay and more.
Because we live in each state for at least three months, we have the time to genuinely experience the area and share those moments. Our calling is showing off the places and events that make each place unique.
We have a passion for sustainable and slow travel but love our mini vacays as well! Along with this, connecting with each culture and experiencing life in the places we visit is a top priority for us.
Since our main area is slow travel, we have the ability to find hidden gems and get to know each area in ways that other creators may not be able to. And we are so grateful for this! Creating those connections with people who live in the area we’re visiting is a huge perk and how we find our favorite places.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Since we are travelers and love the outside, we would love to take our friends around Arizona and show them our favorite spots we’ve been to!
We would start in Lake Havasu City where we would take them to the beach, Rotary Park, and then out on a boat in the lake. For food we would have to show them Sake Sushi and La Vita Dolce Italian Bistro, and if it was a Monday night we would head to The Flying X Saloon for some amazing live music.
After Lake Havasu City, we would head to Sedona for a few days to hike around and really explore the adorable shops in the area. There are so many hikes it would be hard to choose what to do but definitely checking out the different vortexes would top the list!
And finally, after Sedona, we would head to the Grand Canyon for the remainder of their time to hike some more and really appreciate the beautiful sunsets around the park. We would hike around the canyon rim, book another dome stay with Star Garden AZ, and search out the highest rated restaurants around!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First off, we have to thank Nikki’s sister, Morgan, who is a wizard at SEO and websites. She has been the driving-force behind our new blog and it really couldn’t have happened without her.
Jessica, who is a fellow traveler we met in Arizona, deserves some recognition as well. She was the first person we got to meet who is a social media content creator as well and her insight and like-mindedness was a blessing.
We also have to thank everyone who continues to give us support and encouragement when we’re feeling unmotivated or overwhelmed. Having to be in charge of everything in a business is A LOT so every kind message and word of advice means a lot.
