We had the good fortune of connecting with Aboli Mutha and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aboli, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Primary objective behind my page has always been empowering women and enabling them tackle home improvement projects on their own. This, clubbed with my passion to create and share with others has helped serve my purpose. I started my DIY journey as a novice and through my excursion I wish to inspire women to pick up those power tools and transform their homes to a place they always hoped for. I help individuals design their spaces and visualize how their homes would appear by tackling simple and high impact projects. We can do hard things, and I help community to discover that side and gather the courage to tackle projects without a need to spend a ton! I share detailed steps, tips, both success and failures on each project on my Instagram page and blog helping each person approach any home improvement project fully prepared. It has been extremely rewarding so far seeing so many women share creative spaces after being inspired by process I shared.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an IT Architect by profession and creative enthusiast by heart. My DIY journey has had it’s own pace from learning power tools to designing spaces. Having an engineering background helps me focus on innovative solutions, design under constraints and understand trade-offs. Designing spaces comes naturally to me but working with power tools took a lot of practice, perseverance and dedication. I was raised in India, where it was no norm for women to handle tools, leave apart working with them. Immigrating to new country came with it’s challenges. After my second child was born, I suffered from Post Partum Depression. To combat this, I tried to divert my attention by focusing on my creative side – started with small crafts, and slowly introduced myself to power tools. I have learnt so much from my own mistakes making this journey so forgiving and special. I transparently share both success and failures of every project with my audience to motivate them picking up tools to make their home a space they have always imagined, without spending a ton!! I educate and break down every project details which builds confidence in tackling things on their own ! If you want to learn a new tool, flip a furniture, transform a space – I am here to help!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A week long!! Now that is exciting! I don’t find enough time to go hiking, but if I have friend visiting that would definitely make it up the list. We have so many amazing hiking spots in the valley!!
Next would be horseback riding at Fort McDowell near Fountain hills, I almost bribe friends visit us just for this experience.
Two day outing to visit Grand canyon and Sedona.
Definitely keep a spiritual day to visit beautiful temples like Jain Center of Greater Phoenix, Ekta Mandir, Nishkam Seva Gurdwara Sahib!
And definitely reserve an evening to experience beautiful gondola ride on handcrafted Italian gondola boats steered by professional gondoliers at The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort!
I am a major foodie and we have so many amazing restaurants in the valley.. so hard to pick a few!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I am so incredibly thankful of this community who have seen value and shared my work. Each message I receive is so motivating and encourages me to do and serve more. There is a consortium of incredibly talented DIYer women who inspire me each day!!! However, a special shoutout to my husband – who gets dragged into all home improvement projects “involuntarily” but always makes it happen. My kids and parents – who are my biggest cheerleaders and constant supporters! Appreciation can make a day; even change a life and I am grateful to my family and friends who are constantly cheering me on!
