We had the good fortune of connecting with Alejandra Alanis Ortiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alejandra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Being an artist was the last thing I chose because they told me that that hobby would never give me the money to pay the rent. I graduated and got my degree in Business Administration, I worked in a bank for a period of time but I started realizing that life felt empty, I was counting the hours to leave before I arrived at work, and I was unhappy at 23. I didn’t feel like I was living, I was just existing. I told my mom and she asked me what was my dream job, I answer to be an artist. She looked at me, smiled, and ask what was I waiting for it, I was in my best years to start. I enter a couple of acting, directing, and screenwriting courses and with that, I started my artistic career, studying and working as an artist.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I write screenplays, and it’s amazing how I can live the story in my head and then turn it into a screenplay, Sometimes I direct my films, and other times I sell them, I act in films and that is just like writing, is living in a different reality as the character, I am so passionate about writing and acting, I also direct which I like and I analyze films for other directors that later I create a film festival circuit with the highest possibilities to succeed.

I started studying and performing at the same time, it was the best way to learn for me, and this was 13 years ago, it has had its ups and downs but the question I ask myself is, do I see myself going back to work for banks, “NO, that’s not happening” so it’s worth it, the good and the bad, the great and the hard times as well, if it’s not a memory then it’s a lesson to learn.

One of the biggest challenges was the Earthquake in Mexico City in 2017, I survived it thanks to God but all of the projects I was in disappeared so I took one of my own stories and invested it, I turn it into a short film, latter I moved back to my home city and the pandemic hit, again all of the projects I was in disappeared so I started studying a lot to create my own Film Festival circuit for my short film and ended up having great results, I have not stopped studying and became a manager for film festival circuits. Directors and producers send me their films and I analyze them, then I create a film festival circuit based on the study of their films.

I want the world to know that if we work together hand in hand uniting talents and efforts we can make a difference for a person, a crowd, a city, a country, and the whole world because stories and movies touch hearts and move people. I want to keep on working on writing stories that move, directing and acting films that go beyond.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Mexico, there are many places you can visit, travel to, and explore. I leave in the North part of Mexico, we have places to go and have fun but I think I would prefer to travel and get to know new places in Mexico and international.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The list is so long that I don’t think I might finish but I can mention the ones that constantly have been with me and by my side to help me achieve my dream job and dream life.

My Mom, my dad, my 3 amazing brothers and sisters-in-law, my granny, and my cousins Mayte Ortiz, Ana Tere Vargas, Ana Paula Del Valle, and Agustin Del Valle. My friends Astrid Gamboa, Claudia Garnica, Claudia Garza, Maribel, Saraí Dávila, Alejandra Gonzales, Yle Cynthia, the Group of the RegiasChilangas, Fabian Corres, Ricardo Serna, Olga Patlán, Carlos Horacio, Misael Morales.

Half of the people I mention are family and the other half are dear friends and almost all of them are artists as well between actresses, writers, singers, and directors.
