Meet Alexander Holubin | Flight Attendant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexander Holubin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexander, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
For a Flight Attendant the work-life balance can be pretty hectic, it took me a while to figure it out in a way that’s comfortable and works best for me. I’ve changed over time from being an overwhelmed and under-slept junior Flight Attendant to a happy and confident, mature aviation professional, building strong habits and setting up rules for myself.
Long hours, often unexpected schedule changes, as well as being away from home a lot can be challenging for one’s relationship with loved ones. Another challenge is trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and keeping the biological clock running smoothly!
So I’ve managed to build my schedule in a way that allows me to set time off weekly to spend time with my family. In terms of maintaining healthy habits and staying in shape, it’s all about the routine! For example, I always work out on a layover, depending on the length of the stay and how tired I am it could be anything from a short HIIT session in a hotel room to a heavy weights workout in a proper gym! It has to be a rule set in stone though, otherwise the humans are tend to get complacent.
Meal prepping is also a big thing, sometimes it’s hard to get access to healthy food options at the airport or on an airplane, so planning in advance and packing some homemade meals in a cooler is a way to go!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been a Flight Attendant for a major US carrier for over 5 years now. To be honest I don’t consider myself working – that’s how much I love the aviation industry! No other job would give me so much freedom, flexibility and content! Being able to see the world, experience new things and make a difference every day is priceless. Becoming a Flight Attendant wasn’t an easy task, there is a saying that it’s easier to get into Harvard, than trying to get through a Flight Attendant recruiting process, because the acceptance rate is actually lower, less than 1% for FAs, versus 5% to get into Harvard! I am very proud to be where I am right now and grateful for the places I get to see, and moreover the people I get to meet along the way of my career.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I can recommend a book that I really like and reading once a year: The Miracle Morning
