We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Wallin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I think what’s overlooked the most is the amount of effort and training that goes into being a skilled and sought after esthetician. A lot of people don’t really know the amount of hours, education and dedication that hides behind our hands. As an esthetician, I believe I can have a huge impact on a clients confidence and how they see themselves. I also believe it is my responsibility to educate them on healthy skincare habits that they can integrate into their everyday lives. This is why I never stop pursuing continued education and adding more knowledge will always be a part of my career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always been fascinated and inspired by art of many different forms, and actually began my career as a makeup artist in the cosmetic industry. I quickly moved up the ladder with a leading cosmetic company as one of their top freelancers in NYC. My time in NYC afforded me the opportunity to work with celebrities such as Ricky Martin, Iris Apfel, and Mariska Hargitay. I have also done makeup backstage for over 50 fashion shows during New York Fashion Week. After encountering many women concerned with enhancing or changing the way their skin looked with the application of makeup, I decided that I wanted to start educating people on the ‘foundation’ of looking and feeling their best. That discovery led me to want to learn more about taking care of the largest organ of our body, our skin! Encompassing mind and body, the core of my beauty philosophy resides in helping my clients feel as beautiful as they look!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ohhh so many good places to eat and drink in Phoenix! Definitely Taco Chelo for lunch, Postinos for bruschetta boards and a bottle of wine on a Tuesday, F&B for delish farm to table cuisine, Killer Whale Sex club for good loud music and an amazing cocktail program, Undertow for Tiki drinks and a ‘disneyland for adults’ experience. Weather permitting, a camelback mountain hike is a must!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my mentor and friend Louisa Alten. She has been in the field of esthetics for a long time and has not only been an amazing educator for Rhonda Allison skincare, but she was the main reason I had the confidence to start my own skincare studio!
