We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think it’s incredibly important to consider what an ideal work-life balance structure would look like when you’re trying to build the life you want. For the average working person, that balance is often filtered through the job they have and their work expectations.
I remember a time when my work-life balance was mostly work. With three jobs, I didn’t have much time or energy for hobbies or a personal life, and I was tired and stressed all the time. Now, I have more balance in my life. I have time for my hobbies and personal pursuits, and while I still may get tired or stressed sometimes, it’s usually manageable when I take time for to care for myself.
Work-life balance is why we see more people pursuing entrepreneurialism. It allows business owners to take back control of their time, and spend it how they please. They get to decide what their work-life balance is, whether its 50/50, 70/30, or even 90/10.
Not everyone wants to own a business though, so what are the alternatives? If you can be selective in which jobs you accept, considering a company’s policies on flexible schedules, paid time off, and remote work can help you find balance. For those who have more strict schedules, its about finding a way to navigate both responsibility and enjoyment. Finding a job that earns you a living but also allows you enough time outside of it, is when your work and life are truly balanced.
I don’t believe however, that work-life balance is the ultimate solution to dissatisfaction. You can have a balanced life, and still be unhappy because every day you go to a job that you wish to escape from. I believe that if we are to spend our days working, we should try to spend them doing something that brings us purpose. This is why it’s so important to not only find the perfect work-life balance, but to also find fulfillment in the work that you do.

What should our readers know about your business?
I was never someone who knew what they wanted to be when they grew up. I was a great student sure, but chosing a career path was always difficult for me.
I remember as a kid, I would sit at my family’s computer, searching Wikipedia for a job that I thought was worth while. I knew that if I was to do anything in this life, I wanted to contribute to making the world better, but how? I eventually landed on the word “philanthropist.” I didn’t know what it was, I’d never heard of it before, but I was so excited to have finally found the perfect job for me. Upon further research, I realized my dream job was just a fancy word for giving to causes that I believed in, which isn’t a job at all. I knew the answer to the question “What do you want to do?” but I didn’t have an answer that provided me with a career.
Something that I’ve learned since then, is that even with the best intentions, there is a lot about the world that we can’t control. What I’ve also learned, however, something we do have control over, is ourselves. The thoughts we have, lead to the choices we make, turn into habits, and in time creates the person we become. I fondly recall the phrase “be the change you want to see in the world.” I learned that if I am to better the world, I must first better myself.
In effort to walk the talk, throughout my life, I have dedicated myself to better understanding who I am and how I can become the best version of me. It is through self-reflection, my personal experiences, and my professional ones, that I have gained insights about myself, about others, and about the world. My journey through self-improvement has helped me identify core beliefs and philosophies that guide my life. They have shaped me into the person I am today, and as a result, shaped the world around me as well.
See, I believe that we all have challenges unique to us, and personal lessons to learn as we move through life. When we look inward, with the intention of growing and becoming a better person, we are confronted with our faults and our failures. It takes both strength and forgiveness to overcome and evolve into the person you want to be. Strength, to face your short comings, and forgiveness for yourself to grow and move past them. We can’t change what we won’t acknowledge, and we can’t grow if we do not heal.
If I can share my self-improvement experiences, and inspire others to become the best versions of themselves, then maybe I can change the world from the inside out. Through my work and through my life, I aim to help shift people’s perspectives, and encourage modalities of thinking that lead to personal development, self-growth, and spiritual fulfillment. I believe through uplifting others, we uplift our community, creating a better tomorrow, and leading to a better world.

There are many people who have supported me in my journey to who I am today, but it’s my father who has impacted my work ethic the most. He continues to inspire me, shows me how to work hard, and how to stand up for myself. He taught me that I am capable of anything.
