We had the good fortune of connecting with Amara Leggett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amara, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
People outside the education industry, especially about the Dual Enrollment program, are unaware of the sheer amount of students taking college classes while they are in high school. There are community colleges and universities where almost half of the student body is dual enrolled. Stories continue to spread, like mine of graduating high school and college at 16, but no one wonders exactly how those young students did it. This curiosity is how my brand got started. I built my international speaking business around people who were interested in my story and how I could share with others the steps to do the same. Launching the Dual Enrollment Company was the next step in truly capitalizing on the Dual Enrollment market and creating products, services, and content to help students thrive in this world-renowned program.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company, A Young Legend, is who I am. My YouTube videos, speeches, and media features often begin with “My name is Amara Leggett, also known as A Young Legend.” My story begins with how I graduated high school and college at 16 with Dual Enrollment. I was able to achieve this accomplishment by making a strategic plan and being obsessed with my plan of action. Once I shared my story on the TEDx stage, my speaking business took off. I’ve had the honor to speak to Students in Canada, corporations, and large conferences, Soon after, I released “The Strategic Mind of A Young Legend” to share how I built a brand around graduating early. From a teen blogger to an entrepreneur, I wrote how others can make the impossible possible in their life with a strategic plan. Now, I am 19 years old and set to graduate with my Bachelor’s in Computer Science. When I look back on the last 5 years since taking my first college class at 14, not a single part of my story has been easy, but it has been worth it. I can honestly say that I am happy with my life and I have no regrets. I am one of few people that chose to live life on their own terms and defined what that meant at 13 years old. Even though the Dual Enrollment Company is recent, my work with students, educators, and colleges have been ongoing for years now. We are dedicated to helping students around the world graduate college early and debt-free with Dual Enrollment. We provide resources for students in Bermuda, India, Morocco, Vietnam, and the US just to name a few. I am so proud of how Dual Enrollment is making college more accessible as well as my decision to capitalize on this unsaturated market by providing undeniably-good support. But, this is only the beginning for me, A Young Legend, and the Dual Enrollment Company. I’m only 19 after all.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my mother for supporting my dreams. From late-night homework to early morning flights, she has been right next to me capturing every moment to share with the world. If she wasn’t capturing my journey, my companies would not be where they are today. We do everything together. We learn, work, and explore together. She believed in my dream to graduate college at 16, deliver a TEDx Talk at 17, write a book, and launch another company. Thank you for your unwavering support, and endless love.
