We had the good fortune of connecting with Amelia Windman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amelia, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my business after winning a grazing box in an Instagram giveaway by @goudaforthesoulaz actually! Seeing how beautifully she decorated her boxes and how excited I was to receive it really inspired me! I had been looking for a means of income during the pandemic with minimal face to face contact and this seemed perfect. I would be giving people something to look forward to and creating something special to really brighten their (or a loved ones) day! The fact that it was food (which I love) mixed with creativity and art (which I also love) just seemed like the perfect option! I’ve had most of my previous work experience in the food service industry so I already had/have knowledge of food safety. I have also always had an artists eye my entire life, using it in school and in my side hobby of digital art anyway. Those factors mixed with the ability to bring something delectable and carefully crafted to someone else going through these hard times in a safe/cleanly manner really is what drove me to start making my grazing boxes!
What should our readers know about your business?
My business is unique in the fact that everything I make is custom tailored to what you want/need for any occasion. I buy everything to order and make sure everything gets the time and effort I would expect to receive if I were on the customer’s end. Right now I am still a very very young company, having only started this about 3 months ago! I’m trying to expand my clientele and really get my name out there in hopes to one day make this my full time job! So far the lessons I’ve learned is this stuff really takes time. From the act of getting my name out to actually creating the boxes and choosing the high quality products to put in the orders and delicately arranging them, everything is a labor of love. If I could have everyone know something about my small business, it would be that I take the time and effort to really care for each order I get. Every order is made in an effort to make my customers feel like they are spending their money right. That they are going to feel like they are getting/giving a special treat that they/their loved one/friend/coworker/guests can sit back with and really notice all the care that was taken to make these boxes. That their payment is going to someone so that they can afford to buy their first house and have their own family one day instead of to a large corporation. Anything my clients order is bought, cut, arranged, packaged and delivered by hand by me specifically! It’s all a very loving process!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting the area for a week, I would definitely have some places/things on my list of things to do. I would definitely take them to The Sugar Bowl in Oldtown Scottsdale for icecream. This place is near and dear to me as my late father used to go there with his father back when it first opened and in turn would end up taking me there later on before passing away. I would also take them on a drive about an 1 1/2hrs away to Payson/Star Valley and check out all the little shops and stargaze at the milky way. I definitely would also drive just a bit further up to the Mogillon Rim and camp up at Woods Canyon Lake. Its also dear to me as it’s the place I take all my friends camping. There’s always great memories and fun times there.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Special shoutout to @Goudaforthesoulaz for giving me inspiration for starting my grazing boxes and to my boyfriend for standing behind my decision to start my own small business and just being my #1 supporter!
