We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrea Hattenberger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrea, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I honestly didn’t have one! I baked my whole life but began baking cinnamon rolls out of boredom during the pandemic in 2020. I gave them away and they were well received. A friend invited me to do a pop-up shop at her location and that went really well. I looked at my husband and said “well, I think this is a thing!” I then began the process of becoming food cottage certified in Arizona and it’s been a constant journey of learning, growth, and adaptation since.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I accidentally fell into custom sugar cookies. It was never part of the plan. As a home baker, DIY sugar cookie kits were requested. I began playing with the extras from my own kits and I can assure you, I was NOT a natural. I watched every reel and video I could on social media. Following all the cookiers and learning from them, I continued to practice, still not having a business in mind. As Valentine’s Day of 2021 rolled around, I decided I could make some simple hearts to sell. I’m so grateful for those first customers who afforded me the opportunity to make cookies. I started getting requests for custom orders and my skills and knowledge are something I consistently work on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Tucson is such a gorgeous city! We would certainly drive up Mt Lemmon and take in all the beauty and a hike. Favorite spots to eat in the city are Teaspoon, The Parish, And Culinary Dropout.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m so thankful for my husband who is always encouraging and helps fill in the gaps at home when I’m extra busy!
