We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristan Salvador and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristan, why did you pursue a creative career?
I am naturally artistic but not to be cliché, this life chose me. A great sum of my professional life has been in hospitality and customer service, making modeling new territory.
It began after I had my daughter last October. My daughter is consistently being told to model since she was couple months old. I submitted our family photos to a local agency and they responded wanting to sign me and my husband instead! It was a surprise to us but it’s been an excellent journey since.
As a child, I didn’t think I had what it took to model professionally but I often entertained the idea. Now, I get to create something beautiful while providing a means for my family. Being able to do shoots with my husband and/or my daughter is awesome, too, of course!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Making something equally distinct and exceptional is my goal every time I step front of a camera. I have adopted a holistic approach to life, meaning I do my best to consider each aspect in relation to one another as well as the whole. When I model, I focus my body to convey a specific essence or message. My mindset and resolve is the force behind how I pose. Truth be told, what we can’t see is more important than what is seen, though they both play a role. Taking advantage of props, setting, lights and mood also help it all come together in frame.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with several creatives since I’ve gotten started in modeling earlier this year. Collaborations are some of my favorite times because I get to help create something out of an idea. Like everything else in life, it take real work to make it worth it in this industry. I honestly love doing this role and everything it brings. You have to take the good with the bad. I have learned that kindness is a universal language. As well as, keeping my expectations flexible and being willing to adapt goes a long way.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love taking out-of- state friends hiking. Summit trails are my go-to because the view from the top always makes it worth working your butt off to get up there. I have been in Phoenix over 5 years, originally from Illinois. Chicago’s big city building will always have a special place in my heart but can not compare with the natural beauty of mountains. Cathedral Rock in Sedona and Camelback Mountain would be my first stops.
For eats, I would have us stop at Dilla Libre Uno, a Mexican restaurant and food truck, Farm, Craft in Old Town Scottsdale and Hanny’s in Downtown area. These three places are my favorite because their drinks are just as good as their delicious food, I’ve made great memories each time I go.
I am a sucker for beautiful scenery so a trip up north to the Grand Canyon and Antelope Canyon would be a must. And while we’re up there, we’ll check out Bearizona, too. I also love going to Out of of Africa Safari Persevere in Camp Verde to see big cats play and take in the Sahara vibes.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a woman of faith, I give my deepest thanks to Jesus. Everything I have is because of His love. I also could not live this beautiful life without my amazing husband, Cody. He is so willing and faithful and I am so grateful what he does for me and our family.
