We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Birutis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andy, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
At the end of my business career, I want to be able to look back and say that I was able to create products that truly help people. It’s therefore fitting that my last business venture is Alchemi Labs. We manufacture and sell sun hats that reflect the the sun’s heat waves and block 99.8% of skin damaging UV rays. With so many people getting skin cancer, sun protection is critical especially if you love being outdoors. Heat protection is also very important for outdoor enthusiasts and people that have medical conditions which make them especially heat sensitive. We help all of these people. Alchemi Labs was named a Top Innovator by Apparel Magazine for our products and we also won the Pfizer contest that recognizes companies that help people live better and longer. Even more satisfying than the awards are the great consumer comments that we continually receive from people that love the benefits our hats provide.

What should our readers know about your business?
Alchemi Labs started with three old friends that had worked together for many years getting together for lunch. Many years had gone by and we wanted to catch up so we set up a lunch at a hamburger joint in Chicago. Of course we had to talk about the “good old days” and how much fun we had working together. Next thing you know, we decided that we wanted to work together one more time. And so Alchemi Labs was born. We knew of the incredible performance of radiant barrier technology and we settled on applying this technology to sun hats. After almost two years of prototypes, we finally came up with the look, feel, and performance we were searching for. Was it easy? No. We finally launched the products on crowdfunding, found success, and the rest is history.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
After visiting Arizona for years on family vacations my family was determined to live here someday. We moved to Arizona about 5 years ago and love it here. If we had someone visiting, we would try to show them as much of our beautiful state as possible. Canyon De Chelly with its’ fantastic Indian ruins, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Old Route 66, Tombstone, and Chiricahua National Monument are just a few of the amazing places to see.

Along the way, enjoy the great food, watch the sunrise and sunset and talk to the locals to hear their great stories.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Alchemi Labs is a partnership that includes Andy Birutis, the CEO, as well as Sean Daw and Sam Landers. Sean Daw has been primarily responsible for the actual product design and development and Sam Landers has added his considerable graphic design and media expertise. But, when you are an entrepreneur everyone in your family ends up getting involved. In my case, my wife, Deborah Birutis has acted as the CFO and my son, Alex, is always helping on all things technology related. Partnerships are also important to have and Alchemi Labs has been blessed to have some great partners in areas such as manufacturing, logistics, and media development.
