We had the good fortune of connecting with Andy Shaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Perseverance and commitment. This comes with the fact you have to love what you do. If the passion and love is there in art then everything else should fall into place. ‘Brand’ is an interesting word because my work is diverse switching between abstract and realism. My work is more ‘Pop Art’ than anything else. Art is about ideas and if it’s a good idea I will go for it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always drawn since I can remember. As a child I was constantly doodling and drawing. My parents noticed and encouraged me to keep going. At school Art and Design were the only subjects I enjoyed. My art involves drawing, painting and sculpture. I have worked with many Art Galleries from the early 90’s onwards and enjoyed success in particular selling an artwork to David Bowie who came to visit my show in London. I have also worked with Marco Pierre White on a big commission in London supplying his restaurants with 6ft paintings. Along the way you learn that you have to be yourself. I think it’s a misconception to say all artists are the same. The things I like and inspire me drive me on. Today Saatchi Art is my main platform for selling work and the internet is a powerful tool for the world to see and buy my work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you’re visiting London go to the Tate Modern and walk along the river past the London Eye, Hayward Gallery, Oxo Tower all the way to the Tate Modern, lots of shops and cafes along the way. Walk across the Millennium Bridge and enjoy the view. The iconic Battersea Power Station has undergone years of regeneration and is like a mini town in itself, a great new place to visit. Always fun to get off the busy thoroughfare of Oxford Street and walk down South Molton Street towards Bond Street, all the big auction houses like Sotheby’s and Bonhams are worth a look. Hyde Park is a favourite place and the Serpentine Gallery but if you really want to get out the city for a few hours Hampstead Heath is a favourite amongst locals with great views over the capital.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A big Shoutout to Roz my wife who supports me and works with me on packing and admin stuff. Lets me get on with studio time. Saatchi Art has given me a platform to sell my work around the world since I joined in 2016. The sales are hugely important to my success as I have been able to buy the art materials necessary to develop my work.
