Meet Angel Rose | Tattoo Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angel, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Learning to juggle and balance my career has definitely had its ups and downs. I’m not only a tattoo artist but I am also a mother to two beautiful babies. When I initially got into the tattoo industry as an apprentice, I was working 6/10’s and it was exhausting to say the least.
I was figuring out how to dedicate so much of my time into tattooing while also making time for my family at home. I have been lucky enough to have an extremely strong support system through my family. Not only have they been so willing to help with my children, but they have also consistently pushed me forward when I felt like things wouldn’t pan out.
I’ve been in the industry for 3 years now and I’m finally at a point where I can mold my schedule to fit around my babies, no longer feeling the constant pressure of being present enough. I get to not only, do what I love for a living, but I also get to enjoy all other aspects of my life equally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’d like to think my passion for art sets me apart from others. I’ve drawn since I was a child, art has always been such a huge influence for me. I’ve gotten lost through art, it’s gotten me through not only some of my darkest chapters but was also a friend through the happiest points in my life. Expressing myself through my art has always been safe, comforting. I truly don’t know who I would be without it.
I’ve known I wanted to be a tattoo artist since I was 8, I used to watch my dad tattoo in our kitchen (unorthodox I know, haha). From that point forward I knew I wanted to put MY art on people permanently. Nothing seemed or felt more special to me than the connection through art, even more so, sharing it through permanence with somebody else.
Becoming a Tattoo Artist definitely had its challenges, it was no easy feat. Other than having the support system that I do, reminding myself that I get to create and express myself through my art each day kept me going. Knowing that this isn’t just a job but a life style, is comforting for me. I’m not just doing a routine 9/5 but I’m creating something new each day, and I get to share that with people in all different walks of life.
I’ve learned a lot of self discipline, love, compassion, and understanding. Each person I have in my chair is going through something different than the last. I’m given the opportunity to either help them through it, or celebrate with them. Nothing is more rewarding than the initial grin, or excitement that one of my clients gets through a tattoo.
I want anybody and everybody to know, despite anything you’re going through, things always pan out in the way that they are meant to. If you have something you’re passionate about, take the leap for it. I managed to get into this career, and gave it my all, considering everything I was going through when I started. Give yourself enough love and grace, to get to where you strive to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently just made some new friends from out of town, I got to do new things myself as a result. The Horse Shoe bend is such a beautiful place to visit, as well as Sedona. I didn’t realize how much of my home state I haven’t explored, myself. Northern Arizona is definitely where it’s at when it comes to taking someone from out of town around the state.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a big shout out to my family and close friends, for always supporting my journey and my art. I have wanted to be a Tattoo Artist since I was a child and those closest to me always encouraged my growth as an artist. I have had an unwavering amount of support from my close circle. From my parents, to some of my closest friends. Not only have they always rooted for me, but gave me their skin to put my art on permanently. I couldn’t have done it without their help and support.
I also want to give a big shout out to my mentor, Jerry. He took me on as an apprentice and welcomed me into the industry with open arms. He taught me so much more than just “how to tattoo”. He also taught me growth, good morals, self discipline, and much more. Thank you for not giving up on me, and for always pushing me to be the best version of myself that I could be.
My last shout out goes to my children, though they’re little and do not know it yet, they motivated me above all else to get to where I’m at. They continue to do that each and every day, to do better every day than the last. I will always grow and push forward for my rug rats.
