We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Holland and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, what do you attribute your success to?
Doing the work even on the hard days. I know it sounds simple but success to me came from providing the best service, with the right intentions and giving it my best-even on the difficult days…especially on the difficult days. My success came from putting the work in daily, I gave birth to two babies during the growth and scaling of my company. Sleepless nights were no excuse to not give it my all the next day….I somehow dug deep each day to do right by my employees, my clients, and the industry. I love what I do and for that I am truly grateful that each day I could find passion in what I do!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I conceived the idea for my first company out of necessity, based on my own experiences in the dental industry. I recognized the need for an insurance billing company that not only served its clients well but also treated its employees right. I believe I succeeded in doing just that, always making decisions with the best interests of my team and clients in mind. Our clients were dental practices of all sizes, located across the USA. I am forever thankful for what my team and I built from 2019 until I sold the company in 2023. I am very proud to have created a lucrative business that always aligned with my morals and values, which I believe was key to our rapid success.
In 2023, I was approached by a NASDAQ-traded company with an offer to purchase my business, promising to help take Preferred Dental Services to the next level. Although the plan was for me to stay on, I quickly realized that their way of operating did not align with mine. This led me to make the hardest decision of my career: stepping away from my longtime team and clients.
Hard does not accurately describe this decision, but like a phoenix, I will rise.
My passion lies in helping dentists maximize their revenue from dental insurance, and I am great at it! So, in 2024, I decided to embark on another journey of company ownership, with the sole intention of helping dentists increase their revenue from insurance, just as I did before, but from a different angle.
I have created Preferred 2.0, now going by Preferred Dental Solutions, where we specialize in insurance credentialing and PPO fee negotiations—and I LOVE IT! I am back to doing what I love in an industry I am truly passionate about. We provide a white glove service from start to finish, and I am confident that I will build another amazing company that helps dentists and practice owners succeed with insurance the “Preferred” way!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love local hot spots and supporting small business just as so many people have done for me! My favorite local spots include The Olive Mill, hiking camelback mountain, and staycations at The Scott Hotel and resort! Oh and we love a great country concert during the beautiful fall/winter.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My passion for entrepreneurship and leadership has always come naturally, inspired by my dad’s example. Growing up, my dad was my biggest hero, leading by example as he created, grew, and succeeded in several businesses. He never showed how hard the road to success was; in fact, he made it look easy. Whether it was my naivety or his true ease with success, I decided to leap in with both feet to become successful in business just like my dad and I am forever thankful I did.
My success did not come without sacrifice, and I would not have achieved it without the constant support of my best friend and husband, John. We sold our first beautiful home we had together to move into a much smaller one, allowing us to survive on just his income while I grew my company. I can’t count the number of late nights and early mornings I spent focusing on and discussing ways to improve my business. John always responded with, “That’s a great idea, and you know you have my support.” Whether he was half asleep or just knew how to keep my flame ignited, it worked!
Upon taking the leap, I was carefully mentored within the industry by Bassim Michael, CPA, a true success story. Bassim became an invaluable resource and sounding board in the business side of the dental industry. I am forever thankful for his kindness and mentorship and for being willing to share his experiences with me, now I am blessed to call him not only a mentor but a friend.
Of course, along the journey I had the support of many other loving friends and family members, but these 3 people are truly who impacted my ability to succeed.
