We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angela, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Family Members and Friends tend to count on me to find resources to fit their needs. Many know me to be well connected within the community network. I found myself assisting with research, often finding resources to bring resolve to each situation. The demand for my services led to Sista’s With a Purpose Networking Club. Originally registered as a Non-Profit in Georgia, dissolved in 2020 and reorganized in Arizona, now registered as SISTAS WITH A PURPOSE NETWORKING CLUB LLC.

What should our readers know about your business?
Sista’s With A Purpose Networking Club LLC was created and formed out of necessity due to the reoccurring demand for assistance with college enrollment for the JROTC students I mentored as a booster club president. Family and friends asked for help with defense against collection agencies and civil court summons along with help to better understand credit reporting and repair. I began youth development by default from the need to help my students with essay writing to enhance scholarship opportunities. Therefore, I serve as a college career coach and creative writing instructor to help local student achieve college enrollment acceptance with an abundance of scholarships to assure a debt free college degree. During the decade from 2008-2018, I served as a local poll official in Gwinnett County Georgia with interest in Organizing and Petitioning with focus on Voters Education and Registration. In addition, existing with a strong commitment to advocate for felons, assisting with reinstating their voting rights. I too focus on local government workshops to help our citizens better understand the election process. I am most proud to know, I’ve coached over a half dozen students who received more than enough scholarship funding to assure a debt free degree with funds remaining as a credit balance each semester. The business expanded due to word of mouth from many who found satisfaction from the resolve provided with empathy and compassion. Today, I have learned that “Knowledge is Power” when applied properly. Most challenging situation is helping a people who are not coachable or do not trust the process. Well, this is how I became a College Career Coach, Credit Repair Specialist, Community Outreach Specialist, Life Coach and Scholarship Specialist. Advocate for felon’s rights, financial literacy, health & wellness, tenants rights and youth development.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First stop: Downtown Phoenix to explore, sightsee and enjoy some great food at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Eden Rooftop Bar and restaurant. Day two – second stop: Phoenix Premium Outlet Mall for a day of shopping including supporting local businesses. Day, three, four and five – third stop: An All Inclusive experience at Castle Hot Springs lush oasis in the Sonoran Desert that includes adventures, farm to fork culinary experience and hot springs for relaxation. Day six, we will stay at home base to rest and reflect with journaling about our time spent together with focus on being grateful. Day seven will be a bitter sweet day as I assist my guest with the check list to assure all business and personal items are in place, making sure to give thanks to my guest as I bid a farewell.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to Dr. La Chunna Bryant, a Senior Paralegal, Case Manager and Madam Chairwoman of GAP: Georgia Association of Paralegals. Dr. Bryant is founder of AOM Services & Consulting LLC located 8014 Rockbridge Road Suite B Lithonia GA. 30058. She is a great mentor who recognized my gifts and talents as a research and resource specialist with the ability to organize chaos and bring resolve to most cases. This woman of color, known to advocate for the community, encouraged me to embrace self development in order to become better equipped to serve our community as an activist.
