Meet Angela Reiter | Licensed Masssage Therapist MT-12913, BCTMB

We had the good fortune of connecting with Angela Reiter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Angela, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success and the success of my brand is connection. I create a safe space where my clients are allowed to be vulnerable and they trust me not to take advantage of that vulnerability. There are plenty of massage therapists out there to choose from and the beautiful part is when you realize it’s not so much about competition but about connecting with those who truly value your work and those who you really enjoy working with. The work day seems less like work when every person who is showing up, you actually like them as a human being.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I can proudly say that I have been a licensed and Board certified massage therapist for 28 years. That is long time to do almost anything and still enjoy it! Along the way, I have become an educator and mentor to other massage therapists and currently serving as Chair person on the Arizona State Board of Massage Therapy. How do I overcome challenges? I never quit and I don’t give excuses. I’ve always said ‘if you want something bad enough, you will find a way and if you don’t really want it, you’ll find an excuse.’ I’ve learned that my work ethic is hard to find! I’ve learned that as much as I want to see my clients experience wellness, they have to want that for themselves. I am NOT a healer! I am only a facilitator. Healing is the responsibility of oneself and no one else. I’ve always disliked it when people in my profession call themselves a healer. There is too much ego behind calling yourself that. I prefer practicing with humility.
I am most proud and excited that I never give up trying to educate the public as well as other massage therapists about our industry. Things that we thought were true 20 years ago are no longer relevant and I love re-educating folks on the myths that have plagued our industry.
It was not easy to get where I am today. I don’t think I would enjoy it as much as I do had I not had to work hard for it. I really had to step outside of my comfort zone every time I set a new goal for myself and my business. One of the best things I’ve done in that respect is join networking groups and again, develop meaningful connections with other like-minded business owners. Now they are my word of mouth marketing team!
I’ve learned that no matter how long I am in this industry, there will always be ‘bad actors’. As long as they are there, I will always remain a voice of positivity for my profession and continue to re-educate the public of our profession and help the general public understand what to look for when seeking a great massage therapist.
What do I want the world to know about me or my brand and story? Hmmm… There is always room and time for more kindness, more unconditional positive regard. I am not an energy worker but I do believe you get what you give, law of attraction, what ever you want to call it. In the grand scheme of things, there are plenty of things we give attention to that are really a waste of time and energy. We have one life so make it a good one for yourself and for everyone around you. It’s one of the reasons I love what I do. I get to help people feel better and in turn, I feel good about doing it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting, I would definitely take them for a trip to Jerome and Sedona for some sight seeing, hiking and jeep tours. If one is coming to Arizona and has never been, I think those should be on the to-do list. Dine at Dahl & DeLuca in Sedona. Back in Phoenix, one of my favorite places for dinner is Volanti at Scottsdale Airpark. I’d also try to fit in at trip for some horseback riding at Kohl’s Ranch in Payson.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many who deserve a shoutout. It’s difficult to choose just one, but if I had to choose, it would be a former employer back when I was about 16 years old. I worked for her for over 10 years. We don’t talk anymore, I believe, because ulitmately, I left her business to persue bigger things. She may not even know how big of an impact she had on my life but I learned so much from her and I’m a better business person because of her guidance. Thank you Lynda Roe!
