We had the good fortune of connecting with Anne Wright-Levi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Anne, how does your business help the community or world?
Our business has a strong social impact. Houseplants improve your health in ways you probably don’t even realize. It has been scientifically proven that indoor houseplants can help boost your mood – improving both your mental and physical well-being. Houseplants allow you to breathe better air – they release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide which not only freshens up the air, but also eliminates harmful toxins in the environment. In a very high stress world – houseplants can reduce stress. They can increase levels of positivity, for example, seeing greenery and nature help us feel more relaxed and calm which in turn allows us to focus more and stress less. We have read a number of studies proving that studying or working in the presence of plants can have a pretty dramatic effect – simply being around plants improves concentration, memory and productivity. Similar to the effect of being in nature. Which is what our family motto has always been. “Study Nature, Love Nature, Stay Close to Nature, It will never fail you.” – Frank Lloyd Wright
What should our readers know about your business?
Wright in the Garden is an urban plant shop, run by a mother-son team (great granddaughter and great-great grandson of Frank Lloyd Wright). With a love of gardening and landscaping carried down from generation to generation and an inspiration from a love of nature and landscape design – our shop sells a variety of houseplants (that range from low-high maintenance and low-bright light, air-purifying and pet friendly), terrarium plants, along with succulents, cacti and air plants to finish off your indoor spaces.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being local Phoenicians for generations we would take visitors to our local hot spots in North 32nd neighborhood (Press Coffee, 32 Shea, Sala Thai Phx, Carolinas Mexican Food, etc). Also a great stop is Uptown Farmer’s Market. And for Arizona’s popular tourist spots – Taliesin West and the Desert Botanical Gardens.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our community. Without their love and support of small businesses in our city – shops like us would not exist!
