We had the good fortune of connecting with Armana Christianson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Armana, why did you pursue a creative career?
I don’t think that I pursued this career, it kind of just fell into my lap! I’ve been playing professional golf for the last 6 years and between COVID and some injuries, I took a step back from tournament life to practice and heal. During that time, I started baking more from scratch and finally decorated my first cake! This was all at the end of 2020 and by January 2021, I had launched my website and started taking custom orders. Now, each week I get to use all of my creative energy to put into desserts for people to enjoy.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I try to run my business how my family has run theirs for the last 30 years. With fairness, integrity and efficiency. A weird way to talk about such a creative business like custom cake and cookie decorating! But I try to keep my prices fair to my market, I am always honest with customers and respond in an efficient manner. I think that people appreciate that. I do think that the challenge I have now is that with non-stop custom orders, I have a hard time turning people away. I want to help everyone!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Love Camelback Mountain as a hike, just not during the summer. Taco Chelo is one of my favorite local taco places.
Roosevelt Row actually has a lot of my favorite places to eat and hang out!
Love going to see a baseball game at the stadium downtown. I live close enough to jump on the train to get there.
Pizza Bianco has some great local pizza.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Brandon has been my person on this crazy journey this year. He has been my sounding board when I’m working through problems or new items. He is the person pushing me to make sure I still take care of myself when my head is so deep in orders that I forget to take a second. He’s also the person that is telling my to keep growing while helping me navigate my way through a new industry, business and way of life.
