We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Success has to be defined by each individual person. I define what success means for me by determining what I want my life to look like and working toward that. I take time to celebrate my wins and reflect on my losses, keeping of clear picture of the goal in mind. When working towards your definition of success, it can become a cycle of trying to get “there” with no clear picture, unless defined in the beginning. We see the successes of others via the news and social media and feelings of inadequacy creep in because we are not there, yet when in reality, we are each on our own individual paths of greatness.

If you don’t know what success looks like for you, how will you know when you get there?
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been in Human Resources for the past 9 years, working in the for-profit and not-for-profit sectors. I started in Talent Acquisition and worked in various roles gaining experience and expertise. I currently work as a Senior Human Resource Generalist in Higher Education. Because I work in Human Resources, I am able to give people jobs, solve complex issues, and make processes better. That is why I love what I do. My experience has enabled me to start my own consulting practice working with business owners and entrepreneurs. As more and more individuals start their own businesses and scale and grow, those businesses need human resources support. I have a desire to lend my skills to allow these entrepreneurs to see success in their businesses. I also currently sit on a couple of not-for-profit boards locally within the Phoenix area as well and I appreciate the opportunity to give back to the community in this way. Managing a business, having a career, and being a mom can be a lot. I have so much gratitude for my tribe for their support. Challenges haven’t been easy along the way, however, I have been through a lot and I worked hard to get to where I am. I know what I am capable of and what I can do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Must visit breakfast/brunch spots: Brunch & Sip, Maple & Ash, Hash Kitchen, and Prep & Pastry.
Must visit attractions/things to do: Odysea Aquarium, a day trip to Sedona, Joya Spa at Montelucia, hiking Camelback Mountain for excellent views of the city, and old town Scottsdale for cute shops and shopping!
Must visit dinner spots: Maestro’s (for the butter cake of course!), Sushiholic (I love Sushi!), True Food Kitchen (healthy, fresh cuisine), and definitely Century Grand (the experience is amazing)!
Honorable Mentions (they are all food.. what can I say?!): Pomegranate Cafe (Yummy, delicious vegan food and vegan desserts), Baby Kay’s Cajun Kitchen (some amazing cajun food in the southwest), and Postinos (can never go wrong with a bruschetta board)!
What I have learned is that you can never really get bored with all of the places to dine and things to do. I really haven’t even scratched the surface in the categories above!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The credit and recognition in my story goes to a few groups of people. I have to Shoutout my children, my family, and close friends. I couldn’t have accomplished all that I have without the support of those close to me. Additionally, I have some fellow Human Resources professionals in the industry that I have learned from and had the pleasure of working alongside of. I am appreciative of those who take the time to listen, teach, and mentor. My desire is to do the same for those coming behind me.
