We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Leoncini and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking has played a huge part in my entire career. I am a bridal hair & makeup artist and also a colorist. Early in my career the salon I worked at didn’t do wedding hair. I loved it so much and felt stuck in my position so I took my first risk and quit my job to pursue bridal hair & makeup on my own. I did trials out of my house and traveled to everyone. I am so glad I did because my business quickly grew and within a year the next big risk came. I signed a lease to my first 900sq ft salon. I didn’t have many color clients and was just hoping and praying and betting on myself that I could grow my small wedding business into something more. After 3 years and a booming clientele, hiring 8 employees I had to make the choice to stay put or go out on a limb and get another new & bigger salon. Well that risk paid off well because we are now 3 more years in and having the biggest year of our company and have grown our team to 14 employees! However, the biggest and most exciting risk is happening at the end of the year, I am moving to Arizona and expanding The Philly Hair & Makeup Co. across the country. I never know how these risks and choices will work out but if you follow your gut, trust in yourself and work really hard it usually pays off. I am thrilled to take this new leap in AZ!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Philly Hair & Makeup Co is an on location bridal service. We come to your location on the wedding day and create a salon atmosphere and make you and your bridal party look and feel your best. It is so rewarding making people feel great on the biggest day of their lives. With that also comes challenges and pressure, There can be no mistakes on people’s wedding day , it only happens once for them. I have learned to prepare for everything, how to communicate thoroughly, have a team who is experienced and prepared. Handling peoples expectations and demands when emotions are involved is super tricky but also super rewarding. I feel a lot of my success is from trying to learn something at every wedding to then make the next one even better. Never settling. I am most excited about taking our company’s glam wedding looks and bringing that city vibe to Arizona. I want everyone to be able to leave our chairs feeling like it’s the best they’ve ever looked and confident and excited for their big day!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We are new to Arizona , but in the past year we have found some favorite spots we’ve taken friends and family who visit from the East Coast to. They always want to try Hiking so we go to South Mountain as it’s easier for beginners but still has awesome views. For dining, Joyride Tacos in Gilbert and Blancos in Scottsdale are our definite go to, chill fun vibes with awesome food! And my absolute favorite thing to do with the girls is go to the Omni Montelucia Joya Spa in Paradise Valley. The services are amazing and then you can hang out by their pool with incredible views of the mountains and enjoy the spa amenities all day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband has believed in me and my company since day one. He pushed me to open my salon, open my second salon and now take the leap to expand to Arizona. It is so nice to have a husband who supports your goals and gives you confidence! — My sister also helped me grow Philly Hair & Makeup and she will run our Philadelphia location while I move to Arizona and I am so proud and thankful for her.
