Meet Bäsmini Hayes | Musician, rapper

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bäsmini Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bäsmini, what inspires you?
One person I’m heavily inspired by is my mom, because her drive to do great is insane. She knows what her goal is and she knows how to get there, she takes the steps to do it, with patience and determination in mind.
I’m also inspired by that constant feeling of accomplishing something great. Being able to create and openly express myself in my music is a gift, and with time it evolved. I accomplished more within my music and personal growth over time watching my mother, because we essentially grew up together.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like as an artist, you should be proud of every piece of work you put out, because you’ve put in so much time and effort you could never get back, into it. I’m most proud of the emotional journey my music has taken me. Going from a strictly RnB artist back in 2018 to being a multi-genre artist in 2022 is a process I feel we don’t talk about often.
It was a very emotional journey, experiencing some of the toughest moments life could throw at you and curveballs you barely miss… it’s a lot to handle. Creating a connection between myself and my art had to come naturally. I had to learn that as I grow, my expression changes within my art. My music becomes more emotionally focused, fluid, understandable. It eventually shows how my personality evolves and who I become.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Scottsdale fashion square and neighboring areas are always the way to go when visiting Phoenix! I’m personally a nightlife guy and I love seeing a city alive and thriving at night, Scottsdale (can’t forget Tempe) never fails.
The desert botanical garden is an amazing experience for those in tune with nature, especially when the light shows come on at sunset!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have quite a few people, and these people have gotten me through a lot creatively, emotionally, and mentally.
I wanted to first thank Noah Strykes and Lourde Childs for being present in not one, but two of my singles. Giving me the vocal training and support I needed throughout the sessions. I want to give thanks to Chris Reyes for giving me the opportunity to record my most popular hit What’s the Tea?!
Next I wanted to give thanks to my friends Daisy, Porsha, Alisha, Osiris, and many more for the constant encouragement and support throughout the years growing as an artist. You guys are the rock in my creative journey and I appreciate it.
Lastly, my mom. She deserves it all, because she’s done nothing but put up with the good, the bad, and the ugly of my journey and somehow she’s still here, helping me, giving the same love she’s always given. Eternally grateful.
