Meet Becky Medina | LMT

We had the good fortune of connecting with Becky Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Becky, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am the youngest of three children born and raised in San Tan Valley. My parents both worked full time, my father at a semiconductor faciltiy and my mother a nurse at a hospital. Both came from very little but would save and hustle to build to what they have today. Seeing my mother and father work for everything they have today, inspires me to hustle and work for everything I have ever needed or wanted. Fast forward to me becoming an adult, the morals and values my parents instilled in me are still engraved (pretty deep) in my soul to accomplish anything I want and aspire who I want to be. I had no idea what that would be, I got my Bachelors degree from Arizona State University in Exercise and Wellness with an emphasis in Health Promiton. At the same time I decided to get my diploma from The Bryman School (no longer in business) in Massage Therapy. My mother being a nurse would always come home from her 12 hour overnight shifts asking for a back or foot rub. My sister’s touch was too light. My brother was too rough, But, me? My touch was perfect! She always told me I had a gift and I needed to go to school for it. I really didn’t give it much thought until I was well into college and for some reason decided to go to school and get my diploma in massage therapy. This was one of the smartest decisions I have ever made. I always had corporate jobs coming out of college trying to find my niche in what I really wanted to do with my life, as well as I started my own mobile massage business for friends and family. This worked out great for a few years until I ended up at a job that I wasn’t satifsfied or challenged in anymore and took the leap of faith to quit corporate and put all myt energy into my mobile massage therapy business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting to where I am today in my business was a gradual process. I started massage therapy as a hobby, and over time, it evolved into a side hustle. I continued to hone my skills and expand my knowledge in various massage techniques like guasha, pregnancy massage, reflexology, and deep tissue massage. After about 15 years of doing it on the side, I took the leap and decided to work for myself full-time.
The journey hasn’t been easy. I faced challenges, especially during low months. To overcome them, I learned the importance of financial planning and saving money during high months to sustain myself during slower periods. It required hustle and persistence to keep the business going, but I’ve come to appreciate the rewards that come with being my own boss.
What I want everyone to know about my brand is that it’s all about helping people feel good, both physically and mentally. I bring a unique approach by providing massage therapy services in people’s homes, which isn’t common in the industry. My focus is on helping clients find comfort and balance within their bodies. Whether it’s relieving stress, addressing specific muscle issues, or simply promoting relaxation, my mission is to create a positive and rejuvenating experience for each individual.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If someone is visiting Arizona, I would plan a fantastic week-long itinerary to showcase the best of what this state has to offer. We’d start by heading up to Sedona to explore the mesmerizing red rocks and enjoy some hiking on scenic trails. I’d make sure to take them to local gems like the Chai Tea spot and Lemon Glow for some refreshments.
Next, we’d venture to Williams and Flagstaff, charming towns with character and history. The trip would include visits to wineries, breweries, and a stop at Mount Humphreys for more breathtaking views.I would definitely have us stop at Jerome on the way back because you cannot miss this cliffside town with the haunted hotels.
And for a special treat, I’d take them to south to Bisbee for a unique experience and potentially a pit stop at the studding Mt.Lemmon in Tucson.
Overall, Arizona has so much to offer, and I’d ensure that my friend gets a taste of its natural beauty, cultural richness, and diverse attractions during their visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to recognize my close friends who have been with me from the start. They were the ones who encouraged me to pursue massage therapy as a side gig initially. Their belief in me led to them referring their friends to me, and my business started growing through word-of-mouth. They have been my cheerleaders, helping me stay motivated during the highs and lows of running a small business. Additionally, I’ve had some friends who are small business owners themselves, and their advice and mentorship have been invaluable. They’ve shared their experiences, and that has given me the confidence to navigate the world of entrepreneurship. I would also like to shout out to my mother, who has been instrumental in my success as she helps out with my two boys so that I can see my clients. It takes a village to be a business owner, and I am very blessed for the wonderful village I have.
