We had the good fortune of connecting with Bella Crandall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bella, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
If I don’t do it someone else will. So why not do it? If I failed then it would be because I didn’t try hard enough. The beauty in what I do is I have 100% control of my business. I decide when to take on clients, how many, what kind of births, what to charge, and so on. If I needed to pause and focus more on my family as a stay at home mom then I could. There will always be pregnant women looking for birth support so I wouldn’t have to worry about starting over.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Lunch at postinos for paninis. Dinner at Tacos Chiwas for the best tacos ever.
Drive up to Payson, AZ to go the Mogollon Rim to go kayaking.
Hike the Wind Caves at Usery Pass.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Scott, has supported me every step of the way in growing my doula business. Also, the book “Ina May’s Guide To Child Birth” by Ina May Gaskin showed me how truly amazing birth is and how special it is to support women in their most life changing moments.
