We had the good fortune of connecting with Bonnie Bitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bonnie, what matters most to you?
The one who created us all is the original creator. I believe that we all have creativity in some form in our DNA. Feeling connected to the Lord, making the art I love, and art that I am inspired to make is why I’m here. Connecting to my ideal clients and bringing something out in them that didn’t exhist before, is matters most to me. I am fulfilling my purpose.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As an emerging artist my unique voice is still developing but I am drawn to “loose” watercolor style. Most of my newer pieces are impressionistic in style. I have been influenced by some current watercolor masters like Thomas Schaller, Alvaro Castagnet, Joseph Zburvic to name a few. The current success of my painting career has been a long time coming and was put on hold for almost 40 years. Life happened raising a family, making other career choices delayed the inevitable. Yes, inevitable because it is my life’s assignment. Once I said yes to that assignment I painted continually, doing 28 paintings one month. I still try to paint every day.
The challenges always come with saying “yes” to something, but thankfully during my “hold” period I learned to turn my challenges over to prayer and I have had many exciting opportunities put in front of me.
The latest opportunity just launched last Saturday. Arizona Paint & Sip and it is off to a great start. I can’t wait to see where this goes.
My tag-line is , “Art is Joy”, it would bring great satisfaction to me to continue to bring joy to others through my art and classes for years to come. My mother who is 93 year old is still painting and selling art. Perhaps I’ll follow in her footsteps.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to visit Tucson area, especially the outdoor markets , restaurant’s and galleries. I took a recent trip to San Xavier Mission, stopping off at the Sonoran Desert Museum. Sedona is always on my list. Love the red rock buttes, shopping and of course the galleries. Mt. Lemon is a must as well, reminds me of my home state of Colorado. Anyplace I can hike, take photographs and enjoy friends is my kind of place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A special shoutout to Matt Tommey who’s mentorship program encompasses everything a mentor should be to the Christian artist. He really took all the love, encouragement and business aspects an emerging artist needs and wrapped it up in a little bow. That and the amazing support from my husband is life changing.
