We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenda, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I entered into the travel industry in the late 1980’s early in my career. My family life and career took me in many different directions after several years learning the ins and outs of travel after travel school. Each career opportunity has gaven me such diverse knowledge and experiences, even owning a construction company in Washington. But it was my love of travel that brought me back a number of years ago. With my husband Jeff, who has had a very long career in running global corporate marketing and has traveled extensively. Both of us love to help people and we thought by helping people with their travel dreams, would be something we could really feel good about.
In these challenging times, I wanted to build a travel organization that truly catered to our customers, by boosting their experience and not worry about the scheduling of air, hotel, resorts, excursions etc. Just experience the joy of the trip.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Being raised in the State of Washington. My parents have always owned their own business, my siblings and I used to go to work with them when we were little. There was never a daycare only the business. I loved the freedom that they had but also respected the responsibility that comes with owning your own company. I give the credit to them as I have always done my own thing and taken the extra step to put myself out there to learn and explore something new.
I have never given up, no matter how many failures I have had. That’s how we learn. I stay passionate about what I do and the moment that I do not enjoy my work I know it is time for a new adventure.
Life has not been easy but I always stay positive. Rather, I think about the bright future and how I want to live it and with whom.
Lessons: Oh so many, but I do know that giving up and taking on all the negativity in this world will always hinder your progress.
I am here to help others enjoy life and what better way to make people happy and grateful than to give them the gift of travel that is amazing and stress-free. I start with learning about each client so that I can create the perfect experience that is taylored for them specifically. Creating the perfect experience is a process, it is not just a hotel or air to a destination, there is so much more personality and caring that goes into it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What a great area that we live in with so many options for every interest. Keep in mind, it is my job to get to know my client to understand what their likes are and also their dislikes, Thus, to create their perfect experience.
When my family and friends visit of course we must walk Old Towne Scottsdale. I love the little boutiques and art galleries as well as some great happy hours (gotta hop to several) and people watching.
A nice trip to Sedona and Jerome is a must. The scenery is amazing with some excursions on the pink jeep tours for a little adventure. Many wineries along the way near Cottonwood for those that want to get a little of that in the schedule.
If the time of year is appropriate the hot air balloons are amazing for sunrise or sunset.
After all of the waking and driving a little spa day is required. I love Sanctuary they have a great spa as well as a nice bar with a view.
I like to send clients on a day excursion with a picnic theme to some local restaurants etc. There is a great company that will organize these and they get to experience some of the local cultures.
Who doesn’t need pool time in the sun. There are so many to choose from, but for a great pool experience for the family, The Fairmont Princess has many activities.
Hiking/Biking- Everyone wants to step on Camelback for a hike and see the amazing views
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
As with everyone, I have all had my challenges thru life. I myself really haven’t had people help me specifically but I have had many influences that have made an impact. I have indeed had one special friend that has been there thru the thick and thin and truly believed in me and my capabilities. (Marla Green) Those relationships have inspired me to succeed.
I am a very avid reader and have read many self-help books thru the years. I have found that I pull something from each reading that improves my actions within business and life.
