We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenda Rea and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started making my own natural, olive oil based, skin care products for myself, my children and as gifts for friends. This was some 15 years ago and at that time, there were not a lot of options on the market. The gifts were well received and the products worked amazingly well. I decided I wanted to provide this natural alternative to everyone who was looking for one and I had the perfect opportunity to display and sell my products at the Queen Creek Olive Mill which my husband and I own.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Olivespa, we make natural skin care products using extra virgin olive oil from the olive trees grown on our own farm in Queen Creek, Arizona. We also use other natural ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and pure essential oils to create the cleanest products you can feel safe about putting on your skin. This has been the goal from Day 1 and we continue to expand our product line using the same simple guidelines of keeping it natural and healthy. We have introduced Men’s products and our latest line is all about Baby!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The very first place I would take a visitor to, would be the Queen Creek Olive Mill in Queen Creek, Arizona. If it is late fall you can see the olives being harvested and this is when the extra virgin olive oil is pressed from the olives. Any other time of year that you visit, there are tours, an eatery with home made food served daily, shopping and an olive grove to sit in and eat breakfast or lunch with live music on the weekends. Visitors to the city must visit Old Town Scottsdale of course. Just to walk around and feel the vibrancy of the town with shopping, galleries, and restaurants and bars, this is a must do.
I also like to take my guests hiking, with so many interesting trails in the Phoenix area, you can easily do a couple of different ones during a week-long visit.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My daughter Joey was just a teenager when I began making my products. All 3 of daughters helped at that time, but Joey has stuck with me and now manages many aspects of my business. She keeps me focused (as best she can) and provides support and encouragement when I need it.
