Meet Brianna Bove | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brianna Bove and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brianna, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business, BeAbove Designs when I was in high school. At the time, I was in need of a way to make money that would be flexible enough to fit around school hours and all of the extra curricular activities I was involved in. My mom suggested that I use my love of art to create my own business. I have always been an artistic person, dabbling in all sorts of medias from paint to clay to sewing and so on. I decided to focus on one, which was painting. I began selling custom painted shoes and the business took off right away. After school, extra curriculars, and homework, I would pull all-nighters to finish painting shoes. I thought this would only last through the school year but I kept getting orders here and there through the summer. After I saw the flexibility of creating my own hours, I decided to take my business to Etsy. BeAbove Designs continued through college where some days I would have to paint on the floor of my tiny dorm room. I rebranded my art business in the middle of 2020, a few months after the pandemic hit, when I became unemployed from my other work. I started using my other skills of clay and sewing to create a more well rounded business. Over the last two years BeAbove Designs has grown from a small side hustle to a full time job where I am creating every day and doing art shows every weekend.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets BeAbove Designs apart from other clay jewelry businesses? I ask myself that question a lot because it is important to me to create something that no one has ever seen before. I love what I do and my favorite part of my work is continually changing my designs and ideas. Something that I am very proud of is that I make jewelry that is accessible to anyone and everyone. I use all hypoallergenic materials in my jewelry. Polymer clay is also extremely lightweight so it is very comfortable for people who may have stretched ears or have had surgery to fix ripped ear lobes. I use a variety of of attachments from push back posts to hooks to lever backs to accommodate what fits best for individual ears. I also make many different shape and sizes so that all people from ages 0 – 100 can comfortably enjoy wearing my jewelry!
To get to where I am today took a lot of time and consistency. It’s never easy to get where your’e going but you have to enjoy every moment of the process. Even though I’ve been in business for a few years, I consider myself to be just getting started. I am very happy where I am at while also knowing its no where near where I’d like to be one day. I’ve learned that it isn’t all going to happen over night and that’s okay!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my parents. To my mom for giving me the idea in the first place, coming up with a clever business name, and assisting me in every market and festival she can, and to my dad for his support and being the sole member on my set up crew nearly every Saturday morning for events.
