Meet BriAsh Media | Black-Owned, Female-Owned, Sister-Owned Publishing Company

We had the good fortune of connecting with BriAsh Media and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi BriAsh, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Brianna: I’ve always considered myself a leader. So, with my sister, Ashley, being an experienced writer and author and myself being a budding novelist, I felt like now was the time to help others. No, we are nowhere near where we want to be in our individual careers but I wanted to take some people up the ladder with me. The goal was to create a company that felt like “family” for everyone involved in it and that’s exactly what BriAsh Media is… a family of authors who just want to climb to the top.
Ashley: I wrestled with the idea of starting a publishing company for quite some time. My sister, Brianna, persistently encouraged it, but (if we’re being honest) I doubted that I could do it! However, it was just as if, one day, everything came rushing to me, and I was like, “Maybe I really can do this!” [laughs] Joining forces with Brianna has been amazing. Like her, I wanted to lend a helping hand to those who may have had a dream of seeing their names on the bottom of a book but didn’t know where and/or how to start. Additionally, BriAsh Media serves as a vehicle for established authors as well. Maybe you’ve gotten to a point in your career where you’ve lost your way and want to just focus on the writing aspect of things. Whatever area you’re at, we’re here to guide you. And I think that’s what makes this journey so unique and beautiful.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Brianna: Our push for each author to have creative control over their work is what sets us apart. We want our authors to be able to feel confident in creating, without the hassle of having deadlines or sticking to what’s “popular” in the literary world. I am proud to be able to start a company with my sister, who has an extensive background in writing. Starting this company definitely wasn’t easy and I know the road ahead will not be easy either, especially considering we have ten authors who plan to regularly release books. But one lesson that my mother has always instilled in me is that anything worth having is worth working for and waiting for. It’s a slow grind but eventually, the pieces of the puzzle will come together to create a beautiful picture.
Ashley: I’m proud of our willingness to put our authors first. Even though, as a publisher, that’s what you should do… by nature, a lot of companies don’t actually put the necessary effort into making their writers feel like their work means more than just a check to them. From the jump, Brianna and I knew that we wanted each and every one of our signees to understand how valuable they are–not only to us and what we’re trying to do but the writing world as a whole. We’re just getting started, and I know we have a long road ahead of us–with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears–but I’m excited that we get to fulfill a dream while helping others’ come true as well. In the midst of all of this, I’m learning the importance of trusting myself and betting on myself. God didn’t put me, us in this position for no reason, and I wholeheartedly believe that. I just want the world to know that Brianna and I are putting our all into BriAsh Media. We’re here to stay, so enjoy the ride!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to shout out our wonderful collective of authors. These storytellers are working relentlessly to build their brands, and they deserve a shining light on their efforts.
