Meet Bridget Chambers | Writer & Life Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bridget Chambers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bridget, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
I lasted for about three months (post-college) in a traditional job. Even when I was young, I made my own money with no boss — usually through nannying or editing. My father is the consummate entrepreneur, and I think I followed very closely in his footsteps. I loved the idea of making my own schedule and money, yes – but more than that, I liked the idea that the only limits I’d face would be created by ME. The sky was the limit because I was in charge. Of course that has posed just as much hardship as it has success, because there is great responsibility in being your own boss.
What I couldn’t anticipate in starting my own business as a writer and coach was how invigorated my clients would make me. They have inspired me, challenged me, taught me, and pushed me to think. I love hearing their stories, and I think that my journey in coaching them has made every second of my business worth it to me. As far as writing goes, I couldn’t write anything – no book, article, or opinion – without considering the experiences of the clients I’ve worked with. The lesson here has always felt like, “we all matter, we’re all more alike than we think, we all need validation and direction, we all need to feel like we’re not alone.”

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My passion for entrepreneurship began long before I knew what that word meant. (As a result, lots of handmade babysitting flyers circulated my neighborhood, and at 13-years-old I got that first, irresistible taste of “working for myself.” 😉) People often talk about the downsides of owning a business — the countless restless nights, the constant fear of failure, and the juggling of so many tasks you feel like you might implode…! Those things are valid and I have, on some level, felt the early-aging-induced effects of all three. None of them, however, compete with the unconditional love I have for coaching, writing, and connecting.
My particular business – as a Life Coach and Writer - is propelled by universal human experiences, which means I connect with people through coaching, and speak to them to through writing. My mornings begin with chatty clients on Zoom, and end late at night – fingers typing feverishly on my backlit laptop as I write my latest OpEd or coaching blog. Whether I am writing to the world or coaching one-on-one, I get to experience the most special, sad, enraging, exciting, and invigorating moments in people’s lives. My job is to capture the essence of what they’re feeling and – either by verbal or written word – make sense of them, relate to them, and learn from them. I have had the privilege of working alongside people while they make extraordinary changes – major job shifts, crucial relationship repairs, even life-altering moves across the world!
Of course, like all great relationships, my business and I have experienced our share of ups and downs. But… therein lies the beauty of a perfectly worthwhile love story.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Rusty Spur is flippin’ hysterical, (line dancing, anyone?) and there MUST be a stop at Hyatt Gainey Ranch for a cocktail. It is seriously one of my favorite places ever ~ the grounds are just gorgeous.
As for other food, Kasai is an incredible Japanese Steakhouse that is perfect for a friends’ night or date night. The food is unique, and the fire pits outside set the perfect swanky and sleek tone. Just so fun! Fat Ox is incredible for homemade Italian, The Mission is a superb Latin locale in Old Town, and Olive & Ivy has fantastic patio on the waterfront.
Even for less outdoorsy types, a person should not visit Arizona without attempting a hike! Camelback Mountain is a must-see, but I also love Pinnacle Peak – the entrance of which boasts views from the beautiful Four Seasons Resort. Tired hikers can find a refreshing cocktail and delicious lunch at the hotel’s comfort-food spot, Proof.
As for other recommendations, the shopping at Fashion Square is a hit – everything there just feels luxurious and down to Earth at the same time. The Spa at Talking Stick Resort is fabulous. And as far as accommodations, you just don’t get better than The Phoenician.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I don’t think my dad gets enough credit from me. I’ve never published anything without getting his eyes on it first. He has always encouraged me to dream big… and his support has never wavered. Our alikeness can cause some head bumps every now and again, and that means he’s always keeping me on my toes, making me think, and inspiring me to learn. There is nobody who could ever replicate that – not even close – and it’s priceless. Thanks, Dad!
