We had the good fortune of connecting with Brie Bartz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Taking risks has totally transformed my life and or living outside my comfort zone. It allows me to find freedom and try new things that then later can be very rewarding or if nothing else I can simply say I’ve tried it! Even thinking back about if maybe I shouldn’t have taken a risk on in the end I’ve never regretted taking that extra step forward in my career! I fully believe that life is about the connections we make and through taking risks and just putting one foot in front of the other I have made so many amazing connections!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an army wife and have pursued my career and have really found a love for mixed media. I love using bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors. I create with anything I can get my hands on from collage, inks, markers, spray paint, acrylic paint, and I finish all my paintings in oil for a richer color and more depth! I have been pushing to connect my art with others because I know how powerful art is but in a pandemic it has definitely been harder to get to connect with my community but slowly and surely I have been able to do live painting events and demonstrations with small groups as well as virtual gallery shows m! I have learned through all the ups and downs the past two years that making a habit of the small things like keeping brushes clean and art studio ready for you to paint the next day and being persistent with the big things like goals you have for the next few months and knowing your 5 year goal keeps you on track even if it feels like your moving slow breaking it apart in smaller goals has helped me go just a little further and keep me on track! I love showing the strength/ boldness that is inside of us all the we all are stronger than we know and that we can be sexy, beautiful and bold in our bodies! I take pop art to a new level and push the boundaries of abstract realism! Through texture and unique colors I show what we have overcame or where we are going to go!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If it was just for a couple days I would definitely take them to the white rabbit or one of the speakeasy bars that are hidden and have such a unique and magical mystery inside! As well as jarrods coffee tea and gallery to see some amazing art in the walls and a delicious coffee and hand made pastries! I also thing taking a road trip up to flagstaff or Sedona for a change in scenery and beautiful unique environment and atmosphere! There are also some really awesome city art walks and food truck days!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so thankful for my wonderful teachers/mentors at Milan Art Institute! I also wouldn’t have done anything with out the support of my family and friends
Dale Miller (also mixed media artist), Asia DeVore (also a mixed media artist).
Both of them for their encouraging words through out the program and after
Dimitra Milan and Elli Milan both teachers at Milan Art Institute!
