We had the good fortune of connecting with Camora Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camora, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Since middle school, I’ve always loved getting my nails done, it was an amazing experience. Fast forward, it’s 2019 and I’m starting to see the true creativity behind nail art and I fell in love even more. After watching countless videos on applying acrylic, I began to believe I too could become a nail tech and make people feel transformed. In February of 2020, I applied to nail technology school and became a part-time nail tech student. Little did I know a month later would be the start of a worldwide pandemic. During the peak of the pandemic, my hours started getting cut at my 9 to 5 job and I was on the verge of losing it. Businesses were closing including nail salons, so, it became impossible to provide nail services in person. So, I had to come up with another way to perfect my craft while making people feel good at the same time. That’s when I came up with the idea of opening an online nail press on store. Press on nails were becoming very popular again, so I thought this would be a great way to reach those who couldn’t make an appointment to see their nail tech or were looking for something less permanent. I started creating different designs I thought people would love and added in some jazzy decals and Camk Nails was born. After graduating from nail technology school in October of 2020, I was able to add nail services to the CamK Nails brand and started building my clientele.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
CamK Nails & Supplies is an online store, that offers nail decals, sizing kits and made to order press on nails from my Fully Pressed Collection. All press on sets are pre-designed. I also have an option where customers can order a custom designed set upon request. My nail tech service is an extension of my online store and is offered under the CamK Nails brand. When it comes to nails, I’m a perfectionist, so it is very important that my work is viewed as such when the customer’s package arrives in the mail or my client walks out the door. With that said, I always highly recommend that my press on customers order a sizing kit before ordering any set from my website, because it’s easy to order the wrong size if you’ve never ordered press on nails before. Most people are used to getting press ons nails from their local beauty supply store, but my custom press ons  nails are a little different. They are made to fit each individual perfectly so they can have a flawless look. I never want my customers to have anything less than a flawless fitted press on set. As a nail tech, I don’t believe I am the only nail artist, but very few only offer sculpted acrylic full sets opposed to tips. I find sculpted nails not only healthier for the natural nail but it gives me more freedom to create shapes and new designs. My clients appreciate my efforts at of keeping their natural nails healthy while giving them fun, vibrant, head turning acrylic nails. The more sculpted nails I do, the more excited I become, especially when my clients book a freestyle set. That’s when I go to work and my creative side shines bright.

While growing up I’ve always loved helping people. Whether it was giving advice, a helping hand or doing a friend’s hair for a party. Not only did I enjoy helping others, I loved treating myself to a full set at the nail salon. When I got my nails done, I felt like no one could tell me anything. Even though I enjoyed getting my nails done, I never thought about becoming a nail tech back then. The plan for me was to go to college, get a degree and a good paying job with benefits. Since I always had a passion for helping people, I decided to attend college and get my Bachelor degree in Psychology so, I could open my own practice. A few years after graduating, and working in the mental health and pediatric field it became clear to me that there were young women and men out there getting their nail tech licenses, that look just like me. This revelation sparked a new passion in me and made me realize that I too could become a nail tech so, I began looking into nail schools in my city.

In early 2020, I enrolled in a nail technology school and began my journey of becoming a licensed nail tech. All I could think was, it would be amazing to do something I loved and help people feel beautiful at the same time. Even though I’ve seen a lot of people start but not complete their nail tech journey, I didn’t let that stop me from starting mine. In the summer of 2020, I launched my online store. Social media, YouTube and my mom were my teachers. I learned how to create a website, what online platform to use; how to market my products; what business licenses I needed and the accounting and bookkeeping side of things. I continue to perfect my marketing skills and look for new and creative ideas to get traffic to my website and build my clientele. In the Fall of 2020, I graduated from nail tech school, and then found a salon where I could start perfecting my craft. I truly believe as a psych major, I can connect with my clients on a more personal level, which will only enhance their service.

It’s been a year since I graduated from Nail Technology school and I can honestly say everything I’ve learned over the past year has been rewarding. Of course, there have been some good days and bad days, but I’ve learned to make the best out of every day. I’m so proud of how far I’ve come and how much I’ve accomplished and I can’t wait to show the world what CamK Nails represents in the beauty industry.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was coming to town to visit for a week, I would plan a whole week of adventures. My best friend and I love to explore. So, on day 1, I would plan a day trip to the Grand Canyon to take in the beautiful sites and enjoy some of the outdoor activities. We’d leave early in the morning, to give us enough time to get there, enjoy ourselves and then return back in time for a movie at the drive in. Day 2, we would spend the day at the zoo and then dinner at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen, after which we would return home for an evening of relaxation. Day 3, we would go hiking in the early morning, assuming it was a hot summer day in Phoenix. We would then end the day trying out a new restaurant in downtown Phoenix. Day 4, we would head out early to Lake Havasu to go jet skiing and then return home in the evening to relax and order in. Day 5, we would go shopping and exploring in Scottsdale. Day 6, we would go to the Main Event, play a few arcade games, bowl, play pool or perhaps some indoor skydiving. Day 7, we would go to a day spa in Scottsdale then end the night in old town Scottsdale at a nightclub.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my family and friends who have supported me since day one. Every social media share, comment and/or purchase has kept me going.
