Meet Carma V. | Professional Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carma V. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carma, why did you pursue a creative career?
There were times when I was convinced the universe revolved around me. My intentions were rooted in the “me, myself, and I,” but I am a speck, of a speck, of a speck clinging to a rock hurtling through vast cosmic darkness. There are far more stars and galaxies than there are people and to the Universe, I am one of many. I am unimportant, I am nothing special, of this I am sure.
This knowledge brings me not sadness but solace, putting my problems into perspective and liberating me to live how I choose. The future is not here. The past is already over. All that exists is this momentary fraction of a dot, this moment right here, and I dedicate my moments to the creation of art.
Karma is an energy created by willful action – the intention behind every single action sets karma into motion. I believe intention orchestrates infinite possibilities. The intention behind Carma Visions, the cosmic mission, is to paint beauty into the world, to be a Warrior of Light – to turn hardships into hope, fear into courageous curiosity, pain and suffering into love and compassion all through works of art that speak to the collective soul.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an emerging artist on a cosmic mission to paint beauty into the world and illuminate self-fulfillment through works of art that speak to the collective soul. Combining females, flowers, and animals to a cosmic backdrop, I use the rich tones that acrylic and oil paint provides to explore the multicolored equilibrium between nature and the human condition. Strong females and vibrant wild animals blend on my canvas to create colorful, captivating subjects caught in a hybrid world of reality and surrealism.
Combining these elements allows me to explore how opposites or seemingly contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in ourselves and the natural world – a flower is delicate and resilient. Animals are both predator and prey, fierce but nurturing. Space is a void of uncertainty but infinite possibilities. The dark and the light exist side by side.
My artwork is centered on self-exploration and the creative process is my unmasking. When I let go of the belief that what I need is outside of myself, I can discover my true nature and the strength and stability already present within. I am as ferocious as a lion, and compassionate and caring as a wolf to its pack. As creatures of this earth, I believe we share the same feelings and emotions with other living things and learning to accept, embrace and nourish the animal envoys within is instinctive beauty.
I am a self-taught artist. My artwork hangs in private collections from New York to Nevada. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. I currently live and work in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would rent electric bikes from Rides-N-Motion in Scottsdale and ride the Indian Bend Wash Greenbelt down to the Rio Salado and back in time to watch the sunset on Lake Marguerite. Peronis and Pizza at Crust Simply Italian to celebrate our bike excursion.
An evening in Scottsdale would include dinner at the Mission and Karaoke at The Grapevine.
The next day we would have brunch at Butters Pancake & Cafe, cruise to Downtown Phoenix, and visit the Japanese Friendship Garden and Phoenix Art Museum. In the evening we would laugh it up at a comedy show at Stand Up Live, followed by some live music and cocktails at Copper Blues.
Lastly, a quick getaway trip to Sedona for a night or two to see the beautiful red rock mountain scenery and hike Devil’s Bridge.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Matthew. He has been my biggest fan since day one and believed in me before I believed in myself. He saw this raw artistic talent within me, this light burning with potential, and has nurtured that fire within me for the last decade. I remember standing in the kitchen one day and he goes, “You’re in the wrong field, kid. You’re meant to be an artist.” The thought of being an artist at the time didn’t cross my mind. I enjoyed painting as a hobby, sketching on the sides of my notebooks, and simply creating as a therapeutic outlet.
He surprised me one day with a pile of art supplies – sketchbooks, an assortment of graphite and charcoal pencils, colored pencils, and a container to house all my new drawing materials. He was a true believer from the get-go.
This artistic venture of Carma Visions Professional Artistry is both our dreams. We came up with the name and branding one evening over late-night cocktails spitballing ideas. We still do that to this day, dreaming of bigger and bigger visions for the future. I would not be an artist today if it were not for his love, support, and guidance. He is my true call to adventure.
