We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline Bohde and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caroline, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I moved to Arizona a little over 2 years ago not knowing anyone. I worked for a company as an executive assistant and felt like I was just getting through my days. I wasn’t meeting people through this job and wasn’t passionate about it. Iv’e always wanted to be a business owner and create something on my own. I live in a town where people are always being active and wanting to look their best! The beauty industry in Scottsdale is competitive but I was up for the challenge. Spray tanning for me completely fits with my personality. I am very detail oriented and have an extreme OCD personality. I like to make things look as best as I can make it. Spray tanning a body you need to be attentive to the detail of how you spray someone for the best outcome of the spray tan. I truly want to perfect my art and having my client leave feeling their best!
What should our readers know about your business?
I’ve worked in customer service since I’ve been 18 years old. I enjoy talking to people, getting to know strangers, and most importantly helping people feel good about themselves. I personally feel like I’m good with people. I am very outgoing, friendly, I can talk to anyone. No one will leave me questioning whether or not I care about the outcome of my work and the service I give them. I don’t think getting into this was necessarily hard, I knew It was a good fit for the type of person I am. It wasn’t easy in the sense that you have to put yourself out there, ask for help, and of course worrying about what people think about what your doing and the outcome of your service. I’ve met so many people just willing to help in anyway they can when I started this business. Me personally I would love the world to know that from what I’ve experienced so far with mistakes, people, etc. is that it’s all worth the risk. I wish I would’ve started sooner. I’ve grown more personally and professionally than I’ve ever had. Creating something on your own opens up so many doors for you and has you surrounded by better people.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I feel like I’ve had a visitor every month since I’ve moved here! (Haha). There are so many amazing spots in Arizona to explore. I love doing overnight stays in Sedona and Flagstaff. Hiking Devils Bridge, Cathedral Rock and staying at the fun resorts like Amara Resort and Spa or The Wilde Resort. Locally in Scottsdale I love dining at Ocean 44 (my favorite restaurant personally) ALMA Scottsdale, and Oceans Club. I love wine girl for a fun girls day or The Henry for brunch! Arizona is absolutely stunning and it’s the sunsets that keep me here. Anywhere I can hike to watch a sunset, Camelback Mountain, Papago Park, Sunrise Trail are some of my favorites! There are no bad days in Arizona.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Moving to Arizona and not knowing a lot of people and starting the type of business I have started I needed a lot of help. I reached out to other Spray Tan Artist/Spray Tan Salon owners in the Scottsdale area to help teach me how to physically spray tan a body. They were beyond helpful and Iv’e looked up to them ever since. Other people who have helped me to build a clientele have been influencers in the Scottsdale area. I reached out to some through instagram and they’ve made posts for me which has got me clients from all over. Last but not least, the few friends I do have here & perfect strangers. Since starting glow by CB I have met so many amazing people just willing to help. Providing them a free service to make a post, asking them to model for content and the list goes on. Its been absolutely amazing how helpful people you barely know can be. It motivates me more everyday to build this business!
