We had the good fortune of connecting with Caroline McLain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Caroline, what are you inspired by?
Children inspire me in small and big ways daily, such as to love, trust, speak up, appreciate and laugh! Children are a reminder what it’s like to be happy with the simple things in life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
So, what is Shine Your Light all about? Providing tools for children on how to change their negative thought patterns into positive ones, at the same time impacting their overall mental health and well-being. Kids who develop a strong inner-voice can overcome difficulties as they grow up. Children need emotional support more than ever before due to the increase of cyber bullying, depression, abuse, suicide and isolation. Shine Your Light, offers Bilingual Affirmations, and My Feelings Matter sentence completion cards. We want these to be tools, which help children nurture connections with themselves.

Our thought patterns start when we are young and carry on into adulthood and research shows mindful kids are more likely to be focused, and have the ability to create their own happiness, which are all essential parts of a child’s well-being! Shine Your Light Affirmations gives the opportunity for kids to find their own unique selves and the shining light within them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A getaway in Phoenix for anyone visiting includes near-perfect weather, a bunch of nice hikes right outside of the city, plenty of spots to grab brunch, and breathtaking sunsets. Your first day in Phoenix should be dedicated to the natural beauty that Arizona has to offer. You don’t even need to leave the city limits to experience it!

Start with an early hike on Camelback Mountain, cool down at the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market for some delicious food made by the local vendors and enjoy live music. For the afternoon, the Botanical gardens or the Scottsdale Quarter are both great for people watching, scenic views. shopping and grabbing a boba tea, Dinner at Crisp Pizza is my favorite local spot, and in the heart of old town Scottsdale. I love to take my kids grab some slices and then walk around the canal and browsing super cute local shops as we go grab homemade treats at Pussycat Gelato.

Some cool happy hours spots are Kasmierz Wine and Whiskey bar, Biltmore Hotel’s MercBar and Toca Madera.

When it’s time for Sunday Brunch, Jewel’s Cafe is a gem and, of course, it’s 100% gluten free and kid friendly. The Chicken and Waffles and the Donut Holes are both so yummy!!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughter inspires me to want and do better. She helps motivate me to live my life as an example for her. I want her to know she can accomplish anything! I hope for her to strive to be educated, independent, strong, and completely fulfilled. One of the best ways I can teach her how to be these things is to show her by my own example by the lessons my mother taught me. At a recent school event, I asked my friends what they had wanted to be when they were kids, and I got divergent responses: a soccer player, the President, SpiderMan and Nurse, to name a few. Ask an adult when asking about what a person is looking forward to in their career, you’re more likely to hear “the weekend” than any of those responses. Children believe they can be anything they want to be when they grow up, and this inspires me.
