We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Hirshberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carrie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My ultimate passion is helping horses and helping people. While working corporate jobs I was always being pulled into training and giving lessons. At one point I was managing a barn at the same time! My thought process behind starting our own business was to devote more time to the horse industry, all aspects of it, while remaining flexible for our family since we have a 6 year old son.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Here at Hirshberg Performance I believe you have to improve the rider and improve the horse to improve your performance. I am passionate about improving riders just as much as I am about training horses. I am blessed to be able to be effective at both and I believe that is what sets us apart. We have a beautiful facility where we have a successful program all the way from what we feed or supplement all the way to our saddles and saddle fit. We have essentially become ambassadors for the products that we stand behind 100% which include: Total Feeds, Basic Equine Health, Brave Horse, Equiwinner Electrolyte Patches, Equine 15 Natural, Total Saddle Fit, Bob’s Custom Saddles, Rod Kibler Holsters, CR RanchWear, Wild West Blanks and Rusty Brown Jewelry. It’s very rewarding that we have made ourselves open and available that people will reach out or come up to us at events and ask us for guidance. They may want help problem solving or may feel one of our sponsored products will help them and they want to know more. We are always here to help.
In my horse career I have had the opportunity to compete in several disciplines (Western & English pleasure, show jumping, barrel racing and mounted shooting) at a high level and ride some really nice horses. I’ve been under the critical eye of several trainers into my twenties. I have my MBA with an emphasis in management, but I am able to pay forward my diverse horse education daily!
The horse industry in general is not easy as it is very labor intense. Day in and day out Trevor and I strongly believe in doing our best for our clients and our sponsors. By doing the best job we can and not cutting corners we have been able to build a stable business with repeat clients while attracting new ones. As stated before we are thankful through all of our platforms that we are able to help so many people with their horses.
You wont find two more dedicated and loyal people than Trevor and I at Hirshberg Performance. We are so passionate about helping as well as growing and improving the industry that we are both devoted to. Through both our personalities, energy and skill sets we are excited to keep growing our platforms to help more people.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When people come to visit they like to unwind at the ranch. Usually if you are visiting you are a horse person so you appreciate the horse amenities and having an arena right outside the front door! With that being said we would mostly hang out at the ranch. Between arena riding, doing a little penning with the steers, practicing mounted shooting or hitting the trails right outside our gates we can pretty much meet all of your horsey needs right here. I cook and prepare meals every night, but it’s an extra treat when Trevor Barbeques! Anything he prepares on the grill is always decadent and mouthwatering good! We happen to have beautiful mountain view sunrises and sunsets that you don’t want to miss! We’ve since added a pool in a nice shaded spot to keep cool in the hot summer months. The weekends usually involve a competition. Visitors always see our posts on social media, but can’t wait to experience a mounted shooting event first hand out here in Arizona. Events are a lot of fun for us because not only do we get to compete, but we get to be surrounded by great people and some of our best friends.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Husband, Trevor Hirshberg, deserves a lot of recognition. Together we make Hirshberg Performance LLC. He is a full time farrier specializing in performance and orthopedic shoeings; I reference to him as a hoof doctor, as he is way more than just a farrier. With both of us working in the industry we have become a power couple of sorts. Since starting Hirshberg Performance we have become lead ambassadors for several respectable companies, we produce a series of mounted shooting events through our club USMS of Arizona. As we both have our primary professions of farrier work and training and coaching, we are able to come together and help many more people and horses through all of our platforms. We feel blessed to be able to contribute as much as we do.
