We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassandra, Kelly, Kathleen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassandra, Kelly, Kathleen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
One of the biggest factors in starting our own business was the lack of creative freedom we had working under a previous employer. We wanted all of our individual talents to shine through our work and so we started KCK so we could bring our own style to our work. Whether Kelly is cooking and creating new recipes, Katie is finding new creative ways to decorate her baked goods, or Cassandra is finding out of the box ways to make events unique, we have created a company that thrives on creativity and uniqueness.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
KCK Catering & Events is a full service catering and event planning company specializing in weddings and intimate affairs. Though there is no limit on what we will do, we love to work directly with all our clients making every part of their event seamless and special. We opened KCK is 2019 and the first year of business was filled with tons of marketing, branding, and just getting our name out there and showing our clients what we were capable of. By the end of 2019 we had weddings booked for 2020 and the upcoming year was looking very promising. But COVID-19 hit and our business suffered immensely. People were canceling events left and right and we struggling just to find ways to make enough each month to keep moving forward. Fortunately, we had savings, an amazing land lord, great support systems at home, and loyal clients that helped us get through the toughest parts of 2020. And now 2021 and 2022 are filled with so much promise and what we hope to be extremely successful years for our business! We have learned that no matter how much you prepare for the future, there will always be unpredictable bumps along the way and it’s important not to let those bumps dictate your success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Taking into consideration that there are three of, it’s tough to say that we would agree on everything, but some places we would insist on!
– Beneduce vineyards in Pittstown, NJ. one of our absolute favorite places to grab a glass of wine and sit outside and enjoy the live music and gorgeous weather. also one of the venues we constantly work at so we love to visit them!
– Mt. Tammy, Delaware water gap. this is an absolute must do for anyone visiting the area, the views of the Delaware water gap are unbelievable. Our lead planner Cassandra loves to hike and you can always find her outside with her husband and 1 year old son exploring the mountains.
-Kelly loves to check out antique shops followed by some amazing unique food. On a weekend when she’s not in the kitchen you can find her visiting all the shops in New Hope, PA so you can guarantee that this would be a must visit spot!
-Kathleen would take you to some amazing spots for food, the Trapp door in Emmaus, Maxims, and Third in Ferry in Easton are among her top picks, If she’s not here you can find her running miles on the gorgeous Mount Bethel Trail or Plainfield Township trail, I can guarantee she’d have her friend relaxing and take in the surrounding nature while she ran her miles (she never misses a day!)
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to thank our families who have supported us on this endeavor. We would also like to thank our husbands, Zachary, John, and Adam, without thier support and confidence in us we would not be where we are today.
