We had the good fortune of connecting with Catherine Marben and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Catherine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have been a nurse in Primary Care and Learning and Development since 2005. I was lucky enough to develop relationships with my repeat patients over many years. Doing so, I walked with them during their ups and downs. My role as a nurse was to keep them in their best state of health. My goal was to treat each individual as I would my own family, with compassion and empathy, and to provide a response and plan that would encompass their own wants and needs. In doing so, I became aware that every person has a different path to wellness, but all required a state of happiness. Happiness meant anything from a patient with diabetes who was able to still enjoy a scoop of ice cream at bedtime, or it may be a person who got their nails done with the last $30 they had for the week, or simply the lonely elderly person that waited for my weekly phone call to tell me about their week. Confidence brought a sense of security. It was a static theme in achieving the happiness needed to continue their healthier routine.
While I have had a goal to be a Medical Aesthetics Injector for many years, my decision to open my own practice came from the need to have the most input possible in the experience provided for my clients. My number one goal is to improve the confidence of the person walking out of my office. I say to my clients often, “if you look at photos of yourself and there is not a particular thing you see that makes you insecure or holds you back from experiences, you don’t need me! You are already at goal which is, confident!”. I could not imagine myself being an employee that may be encouraged to use sub-par products, or push extra services that are not needed or do not fit into my clients’ budget. I pride myself in working toward a goal at a pace and budget that my clients are comfortable with. My hope is that the little piece of confidence I can provide through my services is enough to drive my clients forward toward wellness and happiness.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
When making the transition from a Primary Care RN to an Aesthetic Injector, I sought out training from a professional that was well known in the industry and local to Arizona. I chose to receive my certification from Jennifer Prince, a globally recognized injector who owns the Institute of Aesthetics in Scottsdale. After my certification, I continued my training as an apprentice at the Institute with Galderma Injector, Brandie Henderson. My time as an apprentice gave me a solid skill set in advanced injection and safety techniques. Upon completion of my apprenticeship, I opened Catherine M Aesthetics on Main Street in Old Town Scottsdale. I have experienced the joy, exhaustion, and also the insecurity that most business owners experience, however, I have received such wonderful clients that have supported me in so many ways. My business has boomed faster than I would have imagined. I have been blessed with the opportunity to create a team with my friend and mentor, Brandie Henderson at Morph Aesthetics. As of October, Catherine M Aesthetics will be located inside Morph Aesthetics in the Biltmore area. This expansion will provide my clients with new services and also new aesthetic injectors with an opportunity for advanced education and apprenticeship. I have been so blessed!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As I write this, I am at one of my favorite spots in the city, Old Town Tavern. I often come to their upper deck to finish my charting for the day. I enjoy this spot, not only for the scene, but also because, the folks that work here have incredible stories that inspire me. When I have time, I love to spend time at the spa. My favorite locations are The Fairmont Princess and Four Seasons resort. I also often hike the Gateway Trailhead at McDowell Mountain.
My go to spots for food in the city are Maple and Ash, Buck and Rider, Toca Madera, Volanti, and Nobu. Sushi will always be the way to my heart!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I was once told, “If you are presented with an opportunity and your immediate answer is not “No”, always say “Yes!”. I have to give credit to my husband for always supporting my “Yes'” in life. I have dreams that seem out of this world to some, but he finds a way to encourage and support me every time. As he says, “If I had my last $100, I’d bet it on you!”. I also have to mention the rest of my friends and family in this shoutout. I have had to stay focused on my business which has taken me away from them significantly, but I still receive nothing but encouragement. I am so grateful.
