We had the good fortune of connecting with Chantel Pitts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chantel, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risks have always played a huge role within my day-to-day life and career. From attending college out-of-state and pursuing a career where there often isn’t a straight and narrow path, to going full-time with my business and moving to a state I had never been to before, just about every major aspect of my life has been a result of taking a risk. To be honest, majority of those moments were very uncomfortable for me. I was making big decisions for my life where the outcome wasn’t exactly clear. Taking that risk was really just me stepping out on my faith and what God had planned for my life. By stepping out on faith, those uncomfortable moments forced me to break outside of my comfort zone each and every time. The growth that came from those experiences alone, was life changing. I’ve evolved in so many ways and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I now know what it truly means to risk it all. It’s made me more dedicated and devoted to everything that I go to do, and it’s also taught me how to persevere through those times of uncertainty and obstacles that naturally come from taking risks.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up, I always had a creative side. You could often find me painting, creating or designing just about anything. As once a shy girl, art and design became an outlet that allowed me to truly express myself. It became my home. This all originally started with an interest in fashion. I would make my own outfits and model them around the house. Fast forward to today, I now curate style content for brands and my personal fashion blog, Chantel Breanne. Within the last few years, I also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel Merchandising with a minor in Business, and then went on to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Fashion Merchandising, with a focus in Fashion Marketing & Brand Management. All in hopes to expand further into the fashion industry within the coming years. When I was 16 years old, I picked up my first camera, and it has stuck with me ever since. For the last 10+ years, I’ve worked as the owner, photographer and videographer for Chantel Breanne Photography. This is where I fell in love with looking at the world from a different perspective, capturing candid moments and creating art. I really have a passion for shaping the look of a brand. I love being able to tell a story through my work, and that’s what has led me this year to launch, The Ivory Curator, a branding and design studio. This entire creative journey has not been easy whatsoever. As a brand and business owner, you often times wear so many hats and have to make a lot of sacrifices, but despite all of the challenges, I truly love what I do, and I’m excited to see how my brands will grow and evolve over the next few years.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today first and foremost without God’s grace, and the constant love and support from my family. My parents have sacrificed so much to ensure that I’ve had the opportunity to pursue things that I’m passionate about. The boundless encouragement I receive from my brother and sister has had a major impact on me as well. I also wouldn’t be the creative I am today if it wasn’t for the mentorship that I received from my high school art teacher Mr. Kuepper. It was through his classes that I discovered my interest in photography, content creation and storytelling through visual mediums.
