Meet Charlie Hanks | Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Charlie Hanks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charlie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my business as an Etsy store in 2015. I initially made soaps and candles. After the first few months I transitioned to making screen printed t-shirts and celebrity saint candles. By that December the candles and shirts started to gain more attention by getting shared in Buzzfeed, Bustle, People Magazine online and more. I always dreamed of opening a gothic witchy store and in March of 2021 I decided to finally take the leap and secured a storefront location eventually opening up in June of 2021. I wanted to build out a space where I could sell gothic clothing, fun shirts, jewelry, goods from local artists, books, tarot decks and offer metaphysical services.
A year later that is exactly what I’ve done. Our space is now host to all those things as well as classes and events.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a witchy boutique in Las Vegas. We specialize in goth and witchy apparel, home decor, accessories, books, art, mystical goods and more. I started in 2015 with a small shop making my own candles and hand screen printed apparel. Throughout the following six years I had dreamed of opening a storefront to fill a darker witchy boutique void in the Las Vegas valley.
I opened the storefront in June of 2021. My dream was to create a space in the community for those of different practices to find tools they can’t easily find in other shops while also catering to the goth apparel and home decor shoppers.
The shop has turned out exactly the way I dreamed and I have zero regrets since taking the leap.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Las Vegas is a plethora of attractions for tourist. For those wanting the darker experiences I would suggest a visit to the Haunted Museum, a drink at Golden Tiki, pizza at Sliced, shopping and a reading at my boutique Blaspheme Boutique, and a burlesque show at Lost Spirits.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The customer base my online boutique gathered over the last 7 years allowed me to have confidence in opening up a storefront. My dad flew in to help me finish up some build out details and continues to make rad products for me to sell. My partner/husband Brian has truly been amazing through all this. He works the shop and screen prints all the shirts I design.
